Inktober exercises. part 1

I have a love hate relationship with watercolour. The watercolour brushes section was something I've been avoiding so naturally it was the only ones I used today. Trying to recreate its characteristics on a digital medium without experience of it in real life was tough.
Goal
- have a better understanding of digital watercolour brush (procreate) behaviour - achieved.
- a water colour "look" - failed

The idea was using different lines to portray different kinds of suits. Like regular suits are basically straight lines crisscrossing. Space suit lines are bubbly, round, curvy. A suit of armour's lines are rigid and controlled. And birthday suit (human form) uses very fluid lines.

Used only shapes to make a shipping (cargo?) vessel.
1633386576606.png

A pun - "knotty/naughty". I was trying to bring attention to form of women's breasts without actually drawing breasts.

1633487774136.png

a grayscale raven colourized with gradient maping
Goal:
- get a better understanding of gradient maping - achieved
- use colour to make the impression that the sex of animal which are usually male at first thought to be female, without the use of other feminizing design choices - accomplishment up to the viewer
I chose to use pink + soft blue with the idea that when I see a dog with a pink collar, I automatically think it's a girl dog.
The raven is actually something I drew a couple years ago when I was testing out different free drawing programs, didn't draw it for inktober... is that cheating?

I'm especially weak at physical spaces so... there.
Had a hard time with it: guessing how light fills a room and all that...
1633672189556.png

added some small textural details on/in the room from day 6.
Overall, it just looks very lonely. Leave it to me to add warm lighting but still end with a depressing room...
1633737081192.png

might need to turn up screen brightness for this
I used to have this old man neighbour who liked to peek through his curtains and watch the street... I don't think he knew how obvious he was
Doing value ranges is actually very different on procreate vs paper. I could probably get away with using only 2 pencils to do this on paper, but on procreate, I had to toggle between 6-8 different shades.

When mentioning perspective in the realms of drawing, it usually refers to linear perspective. I chose to exercise a different aspect of the word.
I wanted to change the way the viewer looks at this inconsequential item. It is not an object someone dropped... it's an unrequited (g)love. cold and alone, unable to be with its desired pair.
1633853247739.png

I wanted to show an emotion without drawing expressions, or faces in general.
Obviously I chose "fear" because it is October.
I hope... it shocked someone upon seeing it...

1634118326613.png

sticker format (transparent) cause it's "stuck" get it? ha-ha. i'm so lame
1634118361363.png

1634296029098.png

a lot of things are poisonous but I think words harm us the most. (influenced by mafia game going on in the cellar)
but for funsies, the text in the back reads "you know the poisonous apple, but have you heard of the poisonous potato?"
too distracted by mafia to colour
1634581196405.png

inspired by... polly pocket
I've been way too exhausted to do anything beyond basic lines... again, because of mafia.
1634581174843.png

our junk... is everywhere, it's basically a part of nature now.
The prompt is injury... not that I didn't complete it because of injury
I just didn't do it.
1634716088843.png

Inktober 2021 part 3.
I didn't do sword... but I did something for @Sara?
It is her island rep + her cute doggo Tori!
1634911464444.png

Trying out some colours ranges I don't ever use + thick line art I don't use...
1635072457874.png

Some speed figures. Approx 2-3 min each.
1635072955272.png

As a huge Splatoon fan, I think it would be an insult to not draw some golden salmon eggs.
Again, I didn't do the prompt, but drew something else
1635081248205.png

it's a basic w*tch
i'm tired
1635710921692.png

redrew "watercolour" from day 1

A final word: I learned a lot this month - from digital drawing tools to procreate specific skills.... But mostly, I figured out that I can't draw something each day...

Your artwork is so fantastic 🤩! I really love the pokemon you recently did and the roof and graffiti, though all of your inktober drawings look amazing as well! I love all the colors and you do an incredible job at shading. 🙂
