Should I flatten my island to create a water island?

This is my current map:

This is the one I have designed but I'm not sure if it will turn out ok?

The idea is to have the main boardwalk connecting all the places - it will be wooden and lined with streetlights and benches. The villagers have each got their own little 'water bungalow' with waterfalls behind the houses. The cliff wraps around the whole lake to make it feel cosy. Do you think this would turn out nice or would it just look cramped? The yellow building on the top left cliff is the museum.

I think this looks incredible. 😮

I don’t know how you made this map, but even just the map looks incredible. Realistically, you’re bound to run into at least one problem, but that’s going to happen with trying to execute any map I think! 😊

I honestly don’t have any advice to give, because I’ve done basically no terraforming, but I think your idea is great, and if you go through with it, I’d love to see progress pics (and the finished product of course)! 😊😍

I say give it a try. I cant say I've seen anyone make a map like this before, so the idea is very creative. I'd love to visit it via dream address when all is finished

It's worth giving it a try if you can spare the time. I didn't see where you plan to put your house. Would that be here:

I the only problem I foresee is it may feel a little cramped, and leave little room for decorating.

I'd say do it! I flattened my island, and am in the progress of making my island into a water one too.

Flattening took a really long time to do, and was very tedious, but its worth it. It was worth those sore fingers for me!

Here are just a few issues I ran into when I was working on mine-

-Getting from place, to place does take time, but if you use the water scape tool, it's pretty easy. Other wise be ready for alot of running. Esspecially for when you find a villager in your way, that tool really helps you get around.

-Decorating is never a big deal to me, but if your huge on decorations you might wanna make a touch more space.

But water islands are fun, and if you don't like it you can always change it back! :)

i love your map! it all depends on what you want out of your island. in the first picture you have a lot of amazing space to terraform into mountains and waterfalls, and with the second map you have a lovely well thought out village without much room to decorate.
ive seen both styles done before and i personally prefer the second islands look. its just Cleaner than the first; but then the bits of my island that are almost finished are also fairly clean looking as well with no space to spruce things up lol.
so i guess the question is; do you enjoy decorating using the furniture and event items as decorations or not? thats what it comes down too really.

Thank you everyone for your responses!

I don't usually use a lot of decoration on my island, it's kept quite rural and simple with just a few seasonal items to keep it interesting. So I don't mind that I wouldn't have a lot of room for items.

Btw, my house is the little yellow square on the right below the campsite - nestled in the cliffside so it's quite secluded!

The thing that bothers me most is that there wouldn't be much room for trees and flowers, and I don't want it to completely lose that island feel - I would definitely make the cliffs into forest areas to make up for it, but I don't know if that would be enough.

It would look so cute though - if I got the boardwalks right it would be like a dock-village!
