I want a real life copy of the game (not digital) and want to play it on the 20th as early as possible. I could preorder it on amazon for March 20 delivery but im not sure what time it will be delivered that day. But I'm worried if I buy it in store it will sell out (though this is unlikely as I plan to go as soon as GameStop or target opens).

What are you guys doing?

couldn't you pre order online at Gamestop and the pick up option for your local store?

personally I've preordered online for my EB Games (Aus GameStop)
but I'm picking it up in store as the store near me is doing a 10pm release on the 19th.

Whenever I've preordered games on Amazon they come at about 1-2pm!! The place where the courier picks it up is about a 20-30 min drive from my house if that's any help. They're really really good in terms of tracking so you can see what time and how many stops so you can do other stuff while you wait! Personally I would preorder it to be on the safe side.

If there's anywhere you can preorder and pick it up in store on release day, I would suggest doing that. It secures you a copy and you don't have to worry about waiting for delivery. When I was looking, in my area only Best Buy allowed in store pickup. Not sure if there are any more stores doing so now. (Also, just to add on to that, I spoke to an employee at Best Buy and he confirmed to me that you can pick it up as soon as the store opens, no waiting for it to be ready later in the day.)

That said, if you can't do in store pickup anywhere, I'm sure you'll be able to find a copy somewhere if you're there as soon as the store opens.

I bought a digital code online and have already pre-downloaded the game on my switch! Considering I know I won't sell the game it made sense to me to go digital, plus it was cheaper than physical and I can play at midnight!

If I didn't get digital, I would've pre-ordered to collect on the day in store.

yeah you guys are right, I think I should pre order to be on the safe side. thanks so much for your help!

I ordered on Walmart to pickup day of. I heard that if you go the day that the game comes o it it’s $10 less. Hopefully I get that small discount.

I pre-ordered at GameStop, and will absolutely bang down the door when they open.

I can't imagine the game will sell out. The system, absolutely, but the game, no way.

You can pre-order to guarantee a copy but then pick it up in-store from that store on the day of if you want, like others said.

I'm just going to buy it the day of. I'll be too sleepy to play at midnight. There's also a stupid amount of stores within a 30 minute drive or less of my house that would have it - 3 Gamestops, 2 Walmarts, a Target, a Best Buy... Others too if I needed it. I don't see it selling out at all of these places that fast.

tried to preorder from game stop, but they wouldn't let me pick it up in store, does this mean they already sold out? :O
regardless, I took yalls advice and preordered from amazon

I've preordered Pok?mon Sword from Amazon and it came a day after release. If you're not worried about preorder bonuses, then just pick it up to be safe. It's better to be able to go and get it then wait for hours for the delivery best case scenario.

they might have sold out of their allocated stock for that local store

definitely preorder while you still can if available in stores because it will most likely not be available same day release. if you're buying from gamestop, i believe they have a policy of only preorders are available same day of release and regular copies for walk in purchases are not available until a later date. preodering at gamestop comes with a free poster while supplies last so, first come first serve for the copy pickup. other places like walmart, target, etc, not sure how they work but i'd assume they'd be sold out for sure, as i don't think they'd have as much a quantity which is why it sold out quicker a month ago here in NY.

if you live in places like NY, you may live walking distance from a gamestop like myself, so you'd be able to walk to a gamestop for midnight releases. also!! midnight releases are not necessarily at midnight, we do them at 9PM here usually.

Very odd for a company not to sell a game on release date outside of preorders.. I've always bought my copies on release from EB Games without a preorder. Though lately I've been buying from WalMart on release since they're open sooner and are slightly cheaper and its always been on release. Bought Pokemon Shield on release from Walmart without a preorder.

it's news to me too, but i recently found that out. apparently it's a new policy, but they've been doing it similarly for a while. we used to have an eb games here but it moved a block away and renamed to gamestop. apparently they can have a few extras if it all hasn't been preodered to be out of stock, but if they end up with extras it's usually 10 or so~ but they said it's /usually/ unlikely.

edit: i guess for here, games, esp popular ones, are usually sold out for same day.

So bizarre... and they're wondering why they aren't doing so well lately? Just sell the game -- not everyone wants to pre-order. Wouldn't surprise me if EB Games adopts this policy soon, though.

yeah! i was going to buy the same day, but when i found that out..
had to preorder everything i want lol but thankfully, i get to pay bit by bit as the release day comes
rather than all at once! that's kind of the pro to it, i guess!
