Skype Question

Sometimes, I go through the list of people who are online and I see that some of them have alternative ways of communicating with the person like AOL (I honestly don't know what it is. Some kind of chatting program?), and Skype. The latter interests me because I make deals sometimes and we live most of the time in conflicting time zones and I'm not online all the time so it really helps, but I can't see the option to add Skype.
Can someone tell me where I can find it?

I usually just check their Skype ID and look it up on my client
