I've been debating posting this for sometime. Not sure how to word what I'm trying to say and all, but I'm giving it a try. I'm curious about something: How will the desert island concept (move to an empty island and build it into a thriving island nation) affect some of the more traditional features.

Will characters like Jack still show up for holidays? What about facilities we've come to know and love like the Museum and various buildings, yes even new ones from New Leaf like Club LOL. Will I be able to sit in a cafe and drink Brewster's Coffee? Basically, I'm trying to say how much of content that we're used to will be scrapped to make this new direction on the series work.

I'm assuming there's no general store or Able Sisters simply because of the crafting feature, but will we pick our hair and color and change it at will ala Pocket Camp? Will Shampoodle come to town?

In addition to wondering about this, I'm curious to hear everyone's opinion on this subject:

How much of the old should be discarded in favor of the new? I love the new concept the game is utilizing, I wasn't even considering this when I asked "How can they go beyond being the mayor of the village? What's next?", however, I'm still scared of whether or not the game will be worthwhile depending on how much is changed.

It sounds dumb, I know, but I feel that the long time features of Animal Crossing have become tradition...so we have to ask ourselves: are traditions like plates (meant to be broken)? Or are they meant to stick around and be observed?

it's already been confirmed that we can choose and customize our skin color and hairstyle at any point in the game, without needing to unlock something. as far as buildings and shops go, nothing has been confirmed and at the same time nothing has been written off yet. we don't know what will happen haha.

so we don't know how living on an island will effect our traditional features because there hasn't been much confirmation on features and there has barely been any gameplay shown. once we get another direct or maybe something else like that, we'll know... but for now, none of us know how "the desert island concept (move to an empty island and build it into a thriving island nation) affect some of the more traditional features"

So I still dunno how to merge posts so I'm just gonna @ the two of you.

@Rusolando-Kun I preordered my copy back in May. ^.^

@donnellcrossing But it's fun to speculate about for those very reasons of not knowing yet. This is essentially just my take on a discussion thread.

You don't sound dumb and actually a lot of the things you mentioned I have also questioned myself. Then I thought of actual real life islands like Hawaii for example. You can find coffee shops, clubs and museums in Hawaii. We're basically building this island from scratch and we should have the ability to build these things and suddenly villagers find out about it and want to move in.

I think all of these features may appear in the next game, if I’m not mistaken. But if they do, they won’t be available by default so you will need to unlock them by building these facilities in your town.

Hey if I get to pick the placement of the facilities all the more fun.

I'm hoping there will be a mainland we can get to by boat to do the majority of shopping and other activities, and just have smaller shops on the island, to keep in theme with it actually being an island.

I like change. Buying the same game over and over again gets boring. They need to shake up the formula to keep people shelling out money.

Unless it's The Sims. Then yes why don't you just take my money for the exact same thing for the fourth time. Oh wait, you've removed features? Charge me double!

I don't see how any of the features could be scrapped. All the buildings and features in New Leaf can easily translate to island lifestyle. At one point, Hawaii was a deserted island, until mankind decided to inhabit the island and from their a civilization unfolded. Shops were built, businesses were founded, and an entire economy was established. Why cant this work for a video game? Jack could easily still visit your island. If your character can arrive by plane, why cant Jack just visit by taking a flight?

Merging is done by the server. If you makes 2 posts, one after the other, they will be merged.

If you want to intentionally add 2 quotes your your post, just write your comment, copy the contents, and then write a new one and past in.

I'm sure all those things are still going to be in the game. It might be more work because you're starting with nothing, but building them could be an option. Or, if they're not available on the island maybe you could use nook miles to go to a nearby island and go to places like that - kind of a further away main street. I'm sure they're going to add so much, but it doesn't make sense to just remove all of the quirky shops and things people love.

Well, we did see a plaza-esque empty dirt area in the game. So I can imagine that we'll have holidays still. Honestly, not having holidays would debatably ruin the game. That was the one thing that wrecked WW for me.

Remember that we built the Cafe in NL! It wasn't a vanilla feature, neither is the Police Station, or Resetti's Sewer. There's precedent for building things, so I'm sure that that's how it'll be done.

Well, we don't know yet, but here is what I think.

Will characters like Jack still show up for holidays?

I'd say yes, those characters are loved and the holidays are fun and keep people playing. The holidays will be different, since they play a bit different in each game. I hope there are MORE holidays.

What about facilities we've come to know and love like the Museum and various buildings

We already had to build most of those in New Leaf. Now we will likely build all of them.

I'm assuming there's no general store or Able Sisters simply because of the crafting feature

Strange assumption. PC has a crafting feature and multiple stores.

But I believe they have already said that crafting won't be the only way to get stuff.

will we pick our hair and color and change it at will ala Pocket Camp? Will Shampoodle come to town?

I have a feeling we will be able to change simple things but more complicated hairstyles will be available from Harriette

are traditions like plates (meant to be broken)? Or are they meant to stick around and be observed?

PLATES PLATES PLATES

If you want to play the old games, play them! They still exist. I want a shakeup, big changes, additions and awesome new experiences.

What we have and love is great. BUILD ON IT.
