So the campsite is bad, right?

I have 10 villagers right now. Had 9 just two days ago but, sadly, some lame sheep named Wendy moved in from someone's void. In itself, that's a bad mechanic that shouldn't kick in as often as it does: I just want to visit my friends or acquaintances for a trade, considering how hard it is to get these guys to move out, I shouldn't have to worry about picking up an unwanted stray from their islands. But never mind that for now: so I've sadly got 10 villagers but Isabelle announces that we've got a camper. Most of the time, it's someone really not noteworthy, which is normal, y'know, there are 393 of these guys, most of them won't be that much fun.

Except this camper is Cyd, one of the eight new villagers introduced in NH and PC that you can't get through mere Amiibo Cards.

Now I don't super like Cyd, myself, as I don't with the majority of Elephant villagers, but that's still a pretty unique villager to have in your town so I'm thinking he could be a cool addition, at least for a while. So I play his stupid card games a bunch of times, lose most of them since it's a 25% chance of victory only until I win. Nice, Cyd does the Resident Services thing and comes back empty-handed but asks if someone might be interested in moving and I say yes. To which he's immediately "Oh yeah, Resident Service said that Sherb might be interested in moving! Should I ask them about it?"

Umm, dude, Sherb cost me 100 NMTs, is also one of the eight new villagers that can't be obtained through Amiibo cards and is also infinitely more likeable than you are. No, you absolutely can't replace Sherb.

So I tell him no and try again. Win his games again and... he asks for Sherb to be the one to move out. And I try it again afterwards and it's still Sherb. So I have to assume that it's a random pick that can't be changed once the camper has decided that this is the person they want to replace? Why couldn't it have been like with the Amiibo Cards and I get to pick which one I think should leave? Why couldn't I have that ugly sheep Wendy be the one to leave? This is totally lame, bro.

So yeah... just me venting about the campsite, I guess. I'm just happy that I already had Raymond and therefore didn't lose him the same way I just lost Cyd, I guess.

Yeah, the game autosaves when you finish the dialogue. If you want to reset for different villagers, you have to close the game before.

I agree the card game (and getting the camper to play) is super annoying.

Oh. So it's... it's too late now, I basically have to pick between Sherb and Cyd and I'll never let go of precious boy Sherb so basically Cyd is a goner, huh?

That's super lame, jeez XD

Yeah what others have said. As soon as the dialogue "So I heard [villager you love] wants to move!" pops, close your game and try again. Don't continue with the convo, otherwise the camper will have this one villager set in stone to replace.

Bummer you didn't get Cyd :( And yeah, having the camper replace a certain villager is a very tedious task 😭 I think it took me 2 hours to have my last camper replace a villager I hated sjhdfk. They kept asking if my dreamies wanted to move out, and I was like hell no try again.

Yeah, you cannot even say "no", because if you do, the auto-saving starts immediately.

You have to close the game the moment you see the picked villagers name on the screen.

On a side note... If Wendy is ever in boxes and you want to give her away I would gladly take her :)

I've had some good visitors in my campsite :D Only thing annoying is that the card game can take a lot of time and especially when you have to choose between 4 different cards instead of 2.

You got it, bro, she's leaving the very moment she pings me. I'm trying out the trick of speaking to her once and then never again for a few days while speaking to every other villager so it might taker a little while.

that's so strange, I've rarely had villagers at my campsite so I'm a little bummed tbh.

I haven't had that many but I've been getting more of them lately, I feel like. Nothing as interesting as Cyd, though, I think I've had, like... four ugly mice and one hippo so far XD

Thank you, I wish you luck - for both our sakes :)

For sure the campsite is bad. Have never once got anyone I wanted, and the process to actually get them to move in is extremely tedious. Could definitely be improved.

its a bit annoying.. i wish we could customize it somehow or the villagers could go outside of it but its kinda cool cause i hear that it goes through all the villagers and so it doesnt repeat itself so surely youll get a dreamie eventually.. thats nice atleast

It would be so cool if they wondered in and out of the tent like villagers do with their houses. They could be in the tent in the beginning of the day after the announcement so we can see who it is and than be free

At least you have the chance to move them in even if your island is full! In ACNL, if your town was full and a camper stopped by, tough luck 😕 And before that you had almost no input on who moved in unless you connected with other players, which lots of people didn't/don't. I keep seeing people complain about how villagers move in from the void and how unfair it is... that's literally how the game used to work. If you didn't connect with other people you had ZERO choice over who moved in. You could sometimes find ways to try and reset just right (sometimes by making a new character) to get another name randomized on the move-in sign, but that was frustrating and tedious as could be.

The campsite, and move-in mechanics in general, in ACNH aren't perfect... but DANG are they an improvement!

How is it better?
You can't choose who moves out unless it's an amiibo.

I would never invite a non amiibo to move in.
Whoops, there goes your favorite villager! :-/

Like I said- you literally could not invite campers in the previous game if your town was full. If your favorite villager popped in and you were full... sucks to be you. Because you couldn't do anything. Now you can influence it. All you have to do if they recommend someone you don't want is to reset the game. It took me under 10 resets to get Maple to select the villager I wanted out. Didn't take much time at all. Seriously, "whoops, there goes your favorite villager"? They need your permission. Maple suggested my favorite villagers a few times... and they're still here. Because I didn't let her move them out. You're acting as if you have no say, and you absolutely do.

And also, like I said, in games before that, you had next to no input- and no input if you didn't have friends that played, and even then only limited input. ACNH gives you more ability to control what villagers you get than ever before, even if there are things that could be changed to make it easier.

Unless autosave kicks in.

Better have a timer handy, though I've shut the game off before the three minute autosave, and it still saves.

That feature cost me literally millions in plot moving fees.

Anyway, how hard would it have been to just allow the player to select who moves?

Not hard at all.

It wouldn't be hard- like I said, it's not perfect. I'd love if Nintendo made that option available to random campers. But getting them to select another villager isn't impossible, just a bit annoying. And there's ZERO risk of someone moving out you don't want (which, as people who've played previous games know, was a risk- villagers would move without any warning at times, as opposed to this game, where you can stop ANY villager from leaving before they do). As long as you reset right after they suggest the villager, you should be good. Unless you're unlucky enough that it kicks in in the few seconds it takes to read the name... I don't see how autosave is going to be a huge issue in THIS instance. Because, yes, autosave can be annoying. And there should definitely be a way to turn it off. But it's also saved me a effort of work when I've had to reset for some reason and would've lost a bunch of time and work otherwise.

I never said there was no room for improvement, just that these aspects in ACNH are better than they were in previous games. That doesn't mean Nintendo couldn't make them better.
