i just spent like 15 mins chasing the same darn crab around....... i feel like the diving is disproportionately challenging to the other tasks lol

i honestly had no idea about the sneaking part either, so don't feel bad. i don't know how much time i've wasted attempting to catch fast sea creatures because i was always rushing up on them.

just swim normally up to them without rushing and they wont take off as quickly / erratically. you have a better chance of diving down directly on them that way.

No, you don’t “swim” after them. Rather, you use your analog stick to kinda wade through the water and creep up near them. When you’re close enough, DIVE!

It will feel like you’re going really slowly, but that’s the point as this is how you “sneak” up on them.

Good luck!! You can do it!!

omg i didn't know this was possible. just swim really slow?
The way to do it is DON'T press A. Just move the control stick. You'll move super slow and will eventually be able to dive down right on top of, or right next to, them. Seriously, it WORKS. I used to chase clams literally around all four sides of my island... but sneaking up means I can just grab them!

Alternative technique, for when swimming slowly becomes frustrating: you can chase them into the corner of the net and get them when they have nowhere to go.

A lot trickier but also possible is to approach them at a right angle to the island or net, because since they try to flee directly away from you (and can't), you'll be able to get them that way or get close enough to catch up.

yes!! honestly when I first caught a lobster it took me Forever to get it because I didn't know about the sneaking thing, it's honestly a life saver and now I can catch spider crabs no problem :) just gotta not press A while you're paddling towards them, they don't swim away as quickly and you can get almost right on top of them before you dive

I will say if you use either tactics, the corner tactic always spooks me a bit because as soon as the critter "bounces" off the net, they make a beeline at you.

So it looks like it's going to attack. 😆

Interesting! I didn't know about sneaking. What I would do for the fast moving sea creatures is direct them towards the island or the barriers in the water. The sea creature is forced to turn a different direction when it gets too close to those things and you can swim right into it as it changes directions.

haha i'm glad i'm not the only one who didn't know you could sneak up on them

There's the Venus' flower basket, I have no clue how I was able to get it, but goodness it was so dang fast and trying to catch it was a nightmare!

It’s so funny to me how the Venus’ flower basket is so insanely fast in game, but in real life they don’t even move around! Animal Crossing logic. :p

lol same with the scallops, i'm pretty sure they don't zip around like that in real life... do they? haha

I think you're able to chase them in corners and grab them that way easier but I could be wrong.

I don't have an issue with sneaking up on them. My problem is getting the rarer ones to spawn in the first place. Some of them have such low percentages to appear that they make scorpions/tarantulas feel common. Think I saw the sea pig is 1% to spawn
