Resident Night Mare
And by this, I mean actually reading, not what you read.
So, Friday night, first night of my vacation, I was curled up in a chair. My Kindle was in my lap, supported by my left hand. I felt a sneeze coming on, so like a civilized person, I covered my mouth/nose with my free hand. That meant I needed to grab a tissue and wash my hands, so I set the Kindle down and used my left hand to untuck myself and stand up. In the bathroom, I reached to turn the faucet on and noticed that the last joint of my pinky (the one closest to the nail) was hanging down. My finger was straight, but the tip was at a 90 degree angle.
It didn't hurt, and I could straighten it with my other hand, but when I let go, it dropped.
Snapped a picture and talked to both parents (yay for family in the medical field). It didn't appear to be broken and it didn't hurt, so I put a splint on it and went to the clinic in the morning.
They took some x-rays and it seems I ruptured the tendon or ligament. The good news is that I shouldn't need surgery. The bad news is that I have to keep it in a splint (they gave me a different one that holds it more immobile) for 12 weeks. Oh, and I'm left-handed.
So much for a week of knitting and marking up print outs of my story. Right now, I'm doing a lot of ibuprofen and ice, but that should get better as the swelling goes down. And I always thought it was what you read that could be dangerous, not the act of reading.
