Spectre in the Study [SOLUTION POSTED]

I was honestly hoping there was a way to actual start over - like wipe clean my current progress and start again. I feel like I missed clues along the way that are now no longer viewable. The page jumps for me even when I'm all the way at the bottom. It jumps whether the command I enter is valid or invalid. Thank you for the suggestions though!

i think if you were using cookies, it saves your progress regardless. you could try opening it in another browser? that might genuinely start it over, but my understanding is that you don't need to for all the clues to be available. you just need to use /look around and try interacting with everything again. also, if the page is still jumping to the top, you could DM mistreil?
It shouldn't be scrolling to the top of the page-- that's definitely a bug I'll want to fix!

Can you PM me a screenshot of what the game looks like for you after you enter a few commands? Also, let me know what browser you're using and the device. I'll try to fix it tomorrow night/Tuesday morning!

The quickest way to do that would be to open up the game in a different browser or in incognito mode in the same browser (provided it isn't already open and hasn't been used for the game already). The not-as-fast way would be to delete the cookie associated with the website in the browser you're using.
Thank you! I'll try the first suggestion. (I'm not sure how to find the cookie associated with the game.)

Woo hoo! "Starting Over" helped in a huge way! I was able to figure out both codes quickly once I was able to retrace my steps. Even though I got stumped I really enjoyed the game. It was fun and challenging but not brain cell murdering like the Egg Hunts. (twitches slightly) Thank you, @Mistreil!

That was super fun 😄 I found the one for the golden coin first before I figured out the one for the haunted coins. I definitely made use of the text clue instead of the audio, don't know if I would have been able to get it without that part.

Whew, this was a lot of fun! I'm glad I decided to save this room for last—this was a really nice way to unwind after all the other projects! ^^ All the puns were also very well done, ahahaha~

I’m assuming the answers will be revealed at the end of the event because I want to slap myself afterwards for not being able to figure out something so simple?

omg that game was actually really charming, definitely my favorite part of the event

well it took some brute forcing for the audio part since I didn't recognize the thing was asking for to get the code (actually, one part of it still confuses me... the scrolling text)

other puzzle was easier, I was just too lazy to go to finish it off last night

anyways, some non-spoilery highlights I had. maybe already posted, but too lazy to check the entire thread to be sure

ps, did anyone else try to attack/lick mistriel and/or other tbt staff?

The worst thing is I can hear the audio voice so clearly and I know exactly where it is from... but it must be irrelevant because I have no idea how it connects to a song (at least that I can find, bg music not referenced)... much less what the song is.

Man I can't wait to find out after the event what the voice was cause I legitimately couldn't make sense of the audio at all

I just found all the codes, I think that was a pretty enjoyable challenge! I don't usually enjoy text adventures much because I always get lost, but this one was pretty fun. I was actually avoiding this room of the Haunted Manor because I thought it was going to be some sort of riddle challenge last past events which I never ever understood, so I was pleasantly surprised by this little game :D

got to what I think is the "end" of the puzzle but no matter what code i type in, nothing is being accepted  i think i'm overthinking it lol.... word puzzle games like this just aren't for everyone which is a shame. it would be great to have more inclusive tasks for events in the future.

This is fun! It kind of reminds me of how we used to start out in the d&d dungeons back in the day. Only instead of looking around for traps/treasure, we're looking for clues/codes. Love it.

I've updated the FAQ a bit. I was hoping I'd have a chance to fix some of the bugs earlier, but it's looking like I might not be able to until Friday night/Saturday morning. (´д`)The true Halloween Horror is working all day.

For now, if you're running into the "scrolling to the top" or "look around doesn't do anything" problems: try to play on a different device or browser. I'll try to fix them by Saturday!

Also a few clarifications:
  • The codes that are to be redeemed on TBT are both 12 characters long (all characters are letters or numbers) and all parts of the code appear with the same special formatting. Anything else is either not the whole code, or not part of the code at all (e.g. an answer to a puzzle in game).
  • The 'audio' and the '. . . NOW PLAYING' hint both refer to the same answer. You can solve that puzzle either using only the audio or only the text.
  • If you want to restart the game, the easiest way to do this is to play in an incognito tab. I'll make a way to restart before Saturday as well.
Additionally: if you've been stuck on the game for more than a few days please PM me! Go through the FAQ on the first post and give those things a try, and then let me know what you've tried and where exactly you're stuck. I'd like to make sure whether the problem is on my end or not. While I don't think there's any way to softlock yourself in the game (i.e. get to a state where you can't do anything), the possibility always exists! There's also the chance that one of my bug fixes before might have ended up causing a problem, and that's why things are inconsistent. Especially if you've played the game over the course of a few days.

(Please note: this does not mean I'm giving any hints via PMs. Anything I will say beyond trying to figure out where the problem is will be the same things that I or others have mentioned in this thread!)

nah, none of that's been posted, though I was planning on posting them if nobody else did, lol. There's one other fun command you didn't post, though (at the bottom of this screencap):

ps, did anyone else try to attack/lick mistriel and/or other tbt staff?
nah, haven't tried since I wouldn't want to attack/lick any of the TBT staff. Hugging them, though, I would be more okay with hugging simulator 2021 when

Ahh! I figured it out. This was really fun. Gonna post my favorite text interactions after the game is over

clues are never not viewable anymore. you can either explore the room over again or you can scroll up through your prompt/code list that you've already gone through.

if you really want to restart I suggest using a different browser.
