I got an itch to play some Animal Crossing today and so... I started up a new town in the original Gamecube game! Oh how I miss the Gamecube... Anyway, if anyone cares I'm just going to post some pictures everyday in a little journal of my new town. So... Welcome to Sallyton!

Here's my new town map of Sallyton! Unfortunately I didn't get a double cliff town (three levels) but oh well I got something else special to make up for it. You can't see it on the map so here's another picture:

YEEEEEEEEES!! I got the elusive double bridge island! It's pretty cool if I do say so myself. I think there's enough room for a tree to be planted if I want to... I'll try that later. Anyway, I began slaving away for Tom Nook at this point by delivering some items to the villagers and writing a letter to a customer for Tom Nook.

To my surprise, one of the villagers actually gave me a decent item! Usually I just get crap like sprinklers from the early Tom Nook deliveries so that was a nice surprise. So after making the rounds of chores for Tom Nook I was finally done. Thanks for the big payment Nook... A whole 1,400 Bells. I could have gotten three times that on my own in half the time. Oh well.

I sold some of the not so great items that the villagers gave me to Tom Nook and I had just enough to purchase a new tool! Unfortunately, the fishing rod wasn't available today so I had to settle for a shovel. I'd rather have a fishing rod but the shovel will do. Now I can dig up some fossils and start a money tree!

After digging up all the fossils, grabbing all the sea shells, planting a bell tree, and doing some more errands for the villagers there wasn't much left to do without a fishing rod. Here's hoping Nook has a fishing rod tomorrow!

I miss the original Animal Crossing so much, so I'll be reminiscing every time you post a picture. It's cool someone decided to restart. Also, that double bridge island is awesome!

I care. I'll look forward to this since i never owned the game

I'm sorry for your loss... But really, it's great. There's lots of great things that have changed in the later versions for the worse. Well, some for the better too.

I know, i've looked everywhere for it and it's nowhere.

I played a little more tonight because... IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT! Meaning K.K. Slider was sitting by the train station! (back in my day we had a train station, none of this "town gate" crap :p) Not much else to say though, I just went around shaking some trees and running errands for the villagers.

I miss how many errands there were to run in this game. In the newer AC games there's usually only one talk option and there's just a small chance they'll give you an errand if you use that option enough times. In this game though there's a dedicated talk option just for asking if they have any jobs for you, it's great!

I agree, the errand option made the game a lot more interesting. Though they were jobs, they were actually really fun and helped pass some time. It's annoying to have to continuously talk to neigbors and sometimes never get to run an errand.

yes i agree there.

i want to run errands, but cbf talking to you for 40 minutes to get the option

Sometimes I never even get the option. They repeat the same sentence over and over when I want to run an errand, or ask me for something when I'm busy. It gets annoying really quickly.

I stored up a bunch of fossils yesterday when I was playing. You might be wondering why I would do such a thing. Well, in the original Animal Crossing you had to mail your fossils to the Muesum to get them identified! None of this walk-in identifying that the newer versions have!

Anyway, you may recall me complaining about the lack of a fishing rod in Nook's yesterday. Apparently Nook was reading this thread and decided to piss me off by carrying a net today instead of a fishing rod. : | Oh well, the net is still nice to have I did actually catch some bugs today. Including a cockroach. HOORAY.

You'll notice in that last screenshot that I have... nearly 19,000 Bells! You know what that means right? It means paying off my first debt to Tom Nook. I'm looking forward to my renovated house. : D Now if only Tom Nook's store would renovate. I like having more than one furniture item in stock a day.

Yes, that's a post office in the background. Believe it or not there wasn't always a Town Hall! Speaking of the Town Hall, there used to be a Dump rather than the Recycling Bin we have now. I miss the Dump...

While we're on the topic of stuff that the newer Animal Crossing games don't have... I went to the Island today! It's not the biggest place in the world but it's still neat and I really hope it comes back to the series in AC 3DS. I would be so happy!

Basically, the island is composed of two parts. There's the main island with about 5 coconut trees, the tree flag and your island villager's house. Then there's a little bridge over to a smaller part of the island where your island house is located. At least that's how my island is setup. I think it may be randomized just like how the main town is. Also, am I the only one who finds it funny that my island house is larger than my main home right now? :p

Finally I want to point out another feature of the original Animal Crossing that was removed from the newer versions. It's the glowing spot! Or shimming spot! Or golden spot! Or shiny spot! I don't think it has an actual name. Basically each day in the town one spot will be shimmering like in the picture. Dig a hole in it with your shovel and you'll get 1,000 Bells usually. If you're lucky you could get 10,000 or even 30,000!

wmqMw.jpg

You don't only get money from it though, it's where you have to bury your shovel for the golden shovel as well as where you'll plant Bell trees! Unlike newer versions it's a little more special than just digging it back up and it magically being golden. As for what that is? You'll have to wait until I do it! Why didn't I now? Because the hole is on the edge of the level so it probably won't grow.

Check back tomorrow for my rennovated house, another chance for a fishing rod, and another glowing spot for a chance at a golden shovel!

Oh yeah, here's a bonus pic:

Nah it's still around. There's only patterns there though so I rarely go there. (no hats/glasses in this game and clothes are sold at Nook's)

One things that's nice about the original is that you don't have to mail your fossils.I miss the dump too, but at least they went green...
