After thinking a bit, I came to a though: What effects will outerspace have on Super Mario Galaxy?

I think that being in outer space will be an awesome effect. I can't wait
to see what it will be up to. I'd say that gravity would have a lot to do with the
game. Perhaps different ways of controlling in the zero gravity, like defying
physics.

Perhaps another effect would have to be the lack of oxygen in outer space.
Perhaps an oxygen level that allows you outside of bases for a limited amount
of time without losing a life.

So...what do you think?

I think it'd be neat for different planets (or galaxies) to have different strengths of gravity. On some planets you might float around almost, whereas on others your mobility is very limited. It'd add a whole new element to the gameplay.

I think that, basically, all that we need is various degress of gravity. For example, one planet's pull would be like on Earth, and Mario wouldn't be able to jump extremely high. On another planet, the pull wouldn't be as hard, and Mario would be able to float in space. That could make for some interesting puzzles and gameplay mechanics. The only thing that worries me about this whole "outer space" theme is that we won't have set courses and worlds like in Mario 64...

Almost undoubtedly, Super Mario Galaxy will have various planets to travel to and each will have their own gravitational levels. This, of course, will add to the challenge of the game, and, like DarthGohan1 previously stated, will add an entirely new element of gameplay. After all, if they didn't take advantage of the gravity, and the game's called Super Mario Galaxy... well, let's say it'd be disappointing (or at least for me it would be).

Oxygenic levels are another interesting factor. Though, being as games are usually unrealistic in this case, the oxygen factor may not even be in the game. It'd be cool if it did, of course, but they'd have to implement it in such a way that it makes it more fun than frustrating. If they couldn't, they'd leave it out altogether and find a way to let Mario breathe at all times without people asking the overasked question "how can Mario breathe?"

The only thing that worries me about this whole "outer space" theme is that we won't have set courses and worlds like in Mario 64...
Well, the different planets may have diversified environments; for example, one planet may have an aquatic environment, whereas another many be volcanic. If the game revolved around a single particular environment, it'd be kind of boring.

:p

Keep in mind that I'm not really up-to-date on any Super Mario Galaxy news or anything. I really know little about the game per se, all I really know is that it's taken place in space and it's on the Wii. However, I have seen some of the screenshots, but not many.

;)

Anyway... Those are my thoughts. Adios!

The game should definitely have many diverse environments, perhaps some even taking a cue from real-life planets. I must say, it would be pretty interesting if players could smash Goombas on a planet which eerily resembles Mars... I know I'd like it!

As for your suggested ida, oxygenic level factor, I think it would be better if it wasn't a factor in the game. It would be most likely become extremely frustrating down the road, and would definitely be more frustration than fun. I would prefer for the developers to forget about this feature in general and just cope with the question, "How can Mario breath in outer space?!"

And yes, for a game like Mario Galaxy to be successful, the environments have to be extremely diverse. Although, it wouldn't be bad if there was one central planet, and players would go from there. It would kind of be like Hyrule Field in the Zelda games and like Princess Peach's Castle in Mario 64.... More or less, a "central base" of sorts. Players would use warps to go to different planets and such, like the doors in Mario 64... However, if everything was based off of past games, there wouldn't be much room for innovation, so I suppose that anything is possible when you think about it.

Oh, and there haven't be a lot of information released regarding the game... The last substantial tidbit of info we have received concered multiplayer aspects in the game, and Miyamoto said that the game would allow for two player co-op/competitive play.
