so the teaser trailer drops this Thursday at 1:05pm PST (4:05pm EST). who else is really excited/interested to see it? I definitely am!!

edit: apparently I still can't covert PST to EST lol

i don't really like illumination's movies, i cant say with any certainty that this will be good. the art style itself looks good, but i'm a bit confused on why mario's face isn't visible.

the style looks really good and essentially what i would imagine a super mario movie to look like, but i can't help but worry just a little that mario's face is hidden because they've almost given him an ~illumination~ look. regardless, i would be more excited for the movie if not for the voice cast. celebrity casting is always a bit meh, but it really does this movie a disservice. the only one that actually feels like they'll fit their character is jack black, and he at least has semi-extensive experience from the (amazing) kung-fu panda movies. i cannot begin to fathom how they plan on pulling off chris pratt (a bad choice to begin with imo for. reasons) as mario, and anna taylor-joy just doesn't sound like princess peach to me, so. i'll judge it from the trailer.

I'm not sure how I feel about it. Visually, that poster is gorgeous - and I believe the rest of the movie will be, too! But there are so many visually stunning movies out there these days that it'll take a lot more than that for me to watch it. The voice cast is what put me off this movie almost entirely. I'm so tired of seeing the same celebrities over and over again, especially when there are better choices out there.

If the story is decent, I'll likely buy the DVD (Blu-ray if the story turns out to be great) when it's released... from another country with a different voice cast. I'm fine with subtitles.

im excited for the trailer, this movie is either going to be really good or an absolute dumpster fire. either way i'll watch it, i wonder how chris pratt will voice mario.

I saw it advertised, but I’m not sure about it yet. I’m honestly kind of surprised that it’s taken so long for one to be released!

well there was the live action Super Mario Bros movie back in the 90s but that was probably the most ridiculous adaptation anyone could've come up with 😂

The fact that this poster looks so fine (if a bit too busy and compositionally unpleasing) makes it hurt all the more when I remember the groan-inducing cast.

The way I see it, there is absolutely no way this can possibly be worse than the live action Mario movie. Every thing does look the way it should and no tiny headed dinosaur people being called Goombas either.

You can't see Mario's face, you all, because this is the generic epic hero on a journey poster. They do it with a lot of shows. When Korra was first shown, we just saw her back and nothing else.

Illumination is known for their great effects. They are also notoriously known for Minions, but I am sure Nintendo would've nuked the crap out of it if they tried to do any of their Minion-esque antics.

Nintendo has been extremely apprehensive of allowing any of their characters be in a movie since the live action Mario disaster. Mario and Bowser were supposed to make cameos in Wreck It Ralph but were pulled because Nintendo were uncomfortable with how successful the movies would be. If Illumination were going to mess things up with Minion inspired antics, Nintendo would have not agreed to the movie. This is why we haven’t had a Legend of Zelda or Metroid movie yet even though both series have enough lore to create an entire movie series.

I mean, Nintendo did sign off on multiple Mario/Rabbids crossover games, which isn't much better (arguably worse depending on how you feel about Rabbids in general) than Minions.

Regardless, I don't think the movie will have a Minions quality to it, either. But there exist bad movies other than Minions.

Is Chris Pine the actor that was married to Anna Farris or the one that played Kirk in the Star Trek movies? I always get confused with those two.

Chris Pine was in Star Trek. Chris Pratt was married to Anna and is now married to Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter.
