not necessarily, and considering how many people obviously think it's ill-fitting to some degree, it's clearly not a case of being reactionary or simply wanting mario's usual professional, experienced voice actor in the role for consistency or familiarity. i, for one, personally have no feelings on that either way, but it would still have been a better choice than chris pratt, who has minimal voice acing experience and seems to use the same (read: his normal) voice in the few roles he has done. i wouldn't have cared who it was, so long as they sounded as mario looks, which chris pratt doesn't. for me, and obviously plenty of others, there's a disconnect between the voice and the character -- like, if you had played his voice lines to me, without me knowing who it was, mario wouldn't have even been close to my first guess.Nintendo would've nipped this in the bud fast if it was really bad like some of you are making it out to be. And you know you'll still watch it anyway despite how 'bad' it is.
besides, 90% of people aren't saying the movie is bad, just that chris pratt as mario is bad, so obviously most of them are still going to see it? it might be insufferable listening to him for the entire runtime, but jack black is already phenomenal as bowser (who people are going to inevitably root for now), and the visuals are still stunning. so, it's not really a 'gotcha' to say people are still going to watch it.
this is like saying "sony would've nipped [the original sonic design] in the bud fast if it was really bad" but they thought it was a perfectly fine design until it was revealed, and they got major backlash lmao. unfortunately, i don't think chris pratt's casting has or is going to do the same level of damage and result in a recast. a girl can dream though. (and after hearing him as mario, i definitely cannot see him as garfield. god, get this man out of the booth-)
