Do you think we will need a switch online subscription to play with friends?

I'm assuming we will need one, as a lot of other games require it now, such as Pokemon and Splatoon 2. So yes, we will need one. :)

Yes for online play and possibly for other online features too such as dream towns, judging by Super Mario Maker 2.

Though as with previous titles I bet you'll still be able to play locally, so playing in person should remain free.

Undoubtedly. Not to access anything like potential DLC items, but anything involving visiting people online definitely will.

I definitely think AC Switch will utilize the paid online. Nintendo has no reason not to sell it to us for animal crossing, especially since they know almost all of us play as a community rather than solo. It's money in their pocket and they are first and foremost a business. I think they'd also give us a package deal like they're doing with Mario Maker 2 since AC is a title that will for sure sell a lot of online subscriptions.

I'm really bummed about this, as my husband and I just cancelled our Nintendo Online. I hate that everyone wants to charge money for online stuff now. It should just be free with wifi. ;_;

Definitely agree, I'm hoping, as someone above mentioned, that local play will still be available without a subscription. I find the whole idea a bit silly, especially since it was free for quite a while.

I would be really surprised if we didn't. Are there even Switch games where you don't need a subscription to play online?

Local play doesn't require you to be online at all, so it will almost definitely be free. And the only reason online was free for a while was to get people to want to buy it, since they knew what they could get from it.

I would truly be very disappointed by this.

Prepared to be disappointed then, because it is the only thing we are 100% sure about the game.

Fortnite is the only game that as far as I know that doesn't require an NSO membership.

I?m sure they will. Personally I don't have much of a need for switch online until animal crossing, but I?m definitely going to be getting a subscription when it comes out.

I absolutely hate this whole paid online thing
I pay like 50 or so a month for internet
70? Per game
Phonebill 60
(Euro btw)
Why so many subscriptions????????? And they don't even have anything to make it worth it

While still unconfirmed if Animal Crossing will support it or not, the NSO service DOES offer the ability to preserve your save files via the Cloud system. I feel it's absolutely worth it just for that alone, because if your Switch dies, all your saves go with it.

But that's just my opinion.

There are checks that could be put in place, but I'm in the same but and don't really see it being supported. Still though, if you play a lot of games on your Switch, it's a nice option to have available to you.

Yeah I doubt its not going to make you use the online service in the switch, the only real good thing about it is its very inexpensive, especially compaired to nintendo's competitors. I wouldn't say it's fair, but their argument is probably it costs money to run these things, and they'd be right as it does. They could very well pay for it to make it free to gamers, but as a business it's better to make people pay than not make any money from what gamers will willingly pay for. I pay for it, just probably not gonna get many games any time soon.

Yep, more than likely. They've been pushing the Nintendo Switch Online with all games that support online as far as I know.
