Tablet Help

i think whether or not you want to go with an "intuos/bamboo" or "intuos pro/intuos" also depends on what kind of artworks you want to do in the long run. i have my eyes set on the old intuos line because i want the higher pen pressure sensitivity (this helps you blend the colours better in photoshop and the likes) and i want to be able to do "paintings", movie/video game concept art type of art. i spent $200 on my intuos 4 too but given the range of things that i'd like to do, i think the $200 is more than a reasonable investment. however, i will say that since i use photoshop primarily and have never used sai, i don't know how much the old intuos will enhance the whole sai painting experience
Thanks. Perhaps I will just get an Intuos, small or medium. :)

as for the size, my intuos is a medium size. it's pretty comfortable. i believe the small one is half the size of the medium one. the difference is how big your strokes are usually; if when you draw with pencils on paper and all you're doing is moving your wrist a little by little, then the small one is probably sufficient; if you like to make bigger strokes and draw all over the canvas instead of focusing on one spot at a time, the medium might be more comfortable

if you can't see them in person, always ask for A LOT of pictures before you purchase it

Oh I see! I'm use to some traditional work, for example for some of my pieces like the linework, I have to do some traditionally, sketch, ink, scan. Because sometimes with a mouse, its just too hard to bring the mouse around in a smooth motion. Small piece ---> Good line, Big piece ---> Messy lines. So pretty much saying with a mouse I have a small range. Medium would be best, bigger the better. And the amount of times I move my wrist when using my mouse isn't a lot so... Hmmm. I could deal with a small, heck I use to draw on miiverse a lot with a normal 3DS if that counts. But yeah, the medium sounds far much better than a small. I guess it's like saying if you want a little piece of paper or a big piece of paper, what would you pick.

One of the main reasons why I want to get a tablet is because I am sick of a mouse and want to get out of that space lol.

The website has a comparison of the two tablets.

Yeah, its like half the size ek! But the small is much bigger than I expected it to be. Man this is hard, I don't want to go cheap on myself but IDK what one is best for me.

I'll go google up some photos, thanks!

How much is the price difference? If its not that big of a difference why not just go ahead and get the medium?

If its a loooot. Then maybe a medium used? I think a bigger one is better, just for range of space. Also you can develop your techniques better if you have more room?

Also excited to see your artwork elevate. I mean if you can do what you can do on a DS and with a mouse, I think your artwork after getting a tablet will be amazing!

It's about 100US+ if I want to go for a medium. Small is $99, medium is $199.

There aren't many shops in NZ selling the tablets from what I know but still looking. So far I have only found two small ones used but both aren't far from the price it was purchased. Unless I went on ebay however I am a little scared of shipping costs.

Haha I hope so, thank you Satani. Thank you for the kind words.

Good luck Chibs, what a helpful thread : O Just don't end up with another Chinese tablet Dx I think your art would be amazing with an actual tablet though, absolutely agree!

Just another tip thing to go along with stroke sizes in regards to tablet size..

With the bamboo/new model w.e its called it's not the right ratio for the average monitor.

If you plan to make it as realistic as possible, you'll most likely use pen mode instead of mouse mode.

Mouse mode acts as if it were your mouse and when you move the pen the mouse stays where it was when you lifted up regardless of where you put it back down. Like think of your mousepad as a monitor. If you picked up your mouse on the upper left corner of your mousepad and put the mouse back down in the bottom right corner, it doesn't move your mouse unless it made contact. That's mouse mode. Pen mode is where it's like a pen and every part of the tablet has a set coordinate on the screen basically.

Some settings with the Wacom Intuos Pen & Touch Medium (Although I'm pretty sure all Wacom tablets have these.)

I'm bad at explaining-- Have a visual example! =D
Oh now I get it, thank you haha.

Such a little tablet, and he only uses such a little amount! Makes me worried again if I should go for a small or medium.
I want something big, I am fed up of using such a small space and moving my wrist so little, yet I am use to using so small. So eh, *shrugs*. The small seems like an ok, good size, but I can't wait to see the medium.

I'll see if I can find any good comparisons on youtube. Google images isn't helping.

So I got another question, and I will edit the OP as well with this. The touch feature on the Intuo Pen & Touch, is the touch feature really worth it at all? You can buy a small without the touch feature and save yourself a few bucks. Jint said the touch feature is worthless, and a review I just watched said just forgot about it, go for just the Intuos Pen. It's only a $30 dollar different for me if I go for a small but eh, is it worth it? Intuos Pen is about $100.00 - $108.00 NZD, Intuos Pen & Touch Small $129.00 NZD, and the Intuos Pen & Touch Medium $349.99 NZD, ek!

-----

I might be taking a trip into the city next week, so I will try and find a store in my free time that has the tablets, on display, or a stand to try them out. Anything really.

I didn't get the one with the touch feature. It's useless. Besides, I never used the eraser end of the pen, so I'm perfectly fine with not having those things.

Oh! I looked it up it says the pen doesn't come with an eraser so that ticks me off. So yeaahhhhh....
Thanks for that Pengu.
I need an eraser, I am an eraser freak.

So it looks like I am back to small or medium. After more research the small is more ideal with small screens such as a laptop, while the medium is for larger screens of 15-21 inches. The computer I use is 19 or 20 inches, oh my.

some of the wacom pens come with an erase end just like the erase on an actual pencil. it's actually not very useful, just like with what Pengu said. you will be just fine using the pen tip end with the eraser function selected (this gives you a better control over areas you want to erase)

Oh really? Well, that's a surprised. Thank you both.

Now back to small and medium lol.
I just IDK if I want to fork over 250 dollars for a medium, or 30 for a touch and eraser. The touch and eraser must really suck pfff. Can't I just use my mouse to zoom in and out?

I'm also curious if I got a small and used it on my computer of 20 inches, is it just the area that's limited smaller on the screen? Or can I adjust that to the size of my screen in a way? But wouldn't that limit it even more, having problems with my movement? Pretty much if I got a small, how it would it affect my screen.

I hope you don't mind me inputting some of my opinion. I found that drawing on a small size is better because there isn't a large amount of space required to draw one line. Also, you should only move up to a larger size if you have a large monitor, but honestly it doesn't really make a difference. I actually change from a medium intuos 5 to a small, and much prefer it. Easier to carry around, less space required, and cheaper too. My screen is about 21 inches (diagonally) and it works just fine. I think one of my other screens is about 23? I don't notice any kinds of jump or skipping around when I draw. I say if you have a screen that is like 27 inches, a small tablet wouldn't be the best option.

Also for the difference between intuos and touch&eraser, the biggest difference I found is the pen. The intuos has a much more comfortable pen. I would say don't worry about the levels of pen sensitivity. If you want thin lines, just change the pen sensitivity to hard.
