Who thinks this would scare the heck out of kids? I refuse to go out at night and only go to island. I've been zapped into a coma too many times and I'm pretty good at catching bugs. Several times one or the other has been right outside my front door. Can't wait for the end of their run.
Both of these bugs also scare me as well.. Luckily I did catch both of them. I have noticed scorpions in the distance and then I did a sneak catch thing. The spider was such a random catch.
Once you know how, catching them is actually pretty fun. Similar to island bugs, you have to sneak while holding A. There are some helpful videos on Youtube, too. ^^
I've never been bitten/stung by a tarantula or scorpion on New Leaf, but I have only caught one or two each. You just need to have mainly empty pockets so you can have room for your net; you should never go out walking at night on the game with your net out. At least I find that important, since I tend to start running if I feel like it. XD You should also hide behind something, whether it be a rock or a tree while equipping your net, and use the sneaking feature once you try to catch them. The one bad thing though about catching them in New Leaf is that they have a limited time of being out, since after a while they run away. I miss that in the other games you had unlimited time to catch them.
I still walk around at night, I have caught the Tarantula but haven't had any luck with the scorpion yet, every time I try and catch it I end up being stung first >_<
Next time I come across one I will try and sneak up on it and see if I have any luck.
I caught both of them completely by chance before I even knew that they could poison me xD Just sort of saw them, then swung my net before they saw me. They both went into the museum to fight each other for the rest of time (that's what happens when they're both in the museum)
I've only ever seen one tarantula, but I see at least one scorpion every night, so I've sold/put on display a couple of those
I can never seem to catch them, unfortunately. It's not that I don't know how, its that I panic because I know that I have precious time to catch one and if I miss I fail. However, it's not as bad as when City Folk came out, because of the whole "brain dead" rumour going around(and with me being young and naive I believed it).
The idea is to sneak up on them of course, but I usually end up taking so long to sneak up on them that they despawn or I freak out and miss the swing. My best experienc though was when I thought a scorpion had despawned so I started to walk away and it pounced at me from behind a tree. I'm quick to duck into buildings now.
