Collectibles

Another interesting feature on this site is the collectibles. Other than trading with other members, there aren’t very many spending opportunities, but there’s always these pixels that sit in your sidebar, displaying many different objects you can get from the shop. Some are all-year, others are event-exclusive. Some can be bought from the shop for Bells or other currencies, others are rewarded. Some are quite common, others are very rare. Some can be traded, others cannot. You can have as many as you want, but you can have only 12 collectibles displayed in your sidebar, and they are in exact order from when they were purchased from the shop in general. Some users display all 12 unique collectibles, some display completed collections, and there are even some that display 12 collectibles of the same. Another limit to collectibles is that some collectibles are unique. I believe there was a total of 175 collectibles ever released on TBT since its transfer to vBulletin.

In reality, these pixels have no real value. Just fun stuff for this site. They are also showy, but useless things. It doesn’t make you any better to have every collectible ever existed, nor does it make you any better to not have any collectible at all. If there were more spending opportunities (like purchasable themes), that would make the shop more interesting, but for now, collectibles are the top ones.

Facts about collectibles:

  • A long time ago, you could have only have five collectibles in your sidebar. Then it went up to 10. Now it’s 12.
  • There were only five animated collectibles in TBT history - snowglobe, green pinwheel, Christmas lights, crescent moon glow wand, and Tetris grid. All of them were exclusive, and were either temporary or awarded.
  • The most purchased giftable collectible was the regular cake, which sold over 4,000 times. The least purchased giftable collectible was the Disco Ball Egg, which sold between 6 to 12.
  • The only set of collectibles that are giftable only once are the birthstones. If you got them from someone else, you can’t gift them. If you were the original buyer, you can gift them.
  • There are more rainbow feathers on TBT than there are black feathers, sweet feathers, glam feathers, rad feathers, and final boss feathers.
There were also many collectible ideas and fanon collectibles from a couple members (including me). How many were accepted? None! The only exceptions were the collectible design contests, and there were only two. The add-ons are a separate category. There are many different add-ons, but they can only extend your avatar, give you the ability to animate it, expand the limit of how many messages you can send at once, increase PM storage, and change your user title or username. There’s also the group add-on, but that’s not really an extension. Just another feature.
