In Nice, France, a crowd was hit by a truck around 10:30 PM local time. The people of the crowd were heading home after watching a fireworks show to celebrate Bastille Day, a national holiday. At that time, the truck drove into the crowd, killing and injuring many. The driver of the truck got into a firefight with French anti-terrorist units, and was killed.
People are now being asked to stay inside, and any vehicles moving around the area are being checked by police.

At time of posting, the death toll is already at 73, with over 100 injured.

Coincidentally, today Hollande also spoke about lifting the state of national emergency at the end of July, after it went into effect in reaction to the November Paris attacks.

I wonder if its Isis?

Probably, unfortunately. I don't want to constantly bring up reasons I like Trump (especially in this situation when so many are injured and dead), but he's for bombing Isis's oil fields which would destroy their wealth, take a looooot of money out of their pockets, and make it harder for them to do things like this, assuming they're actually responsible. I'm sure that even if they're not they'll take credit for it...

It's devastating to think thay those people were out celebrating and enjoying themselves, being killed was probably the last thing on their minds. I can't even begin to imagine the terror and fear right now, so many families have been destroyed. 73 dead, 73. It's such a massive number, but only a small number in the grand total of how many people have been killed this year, I don't doubt that it won't be the last either, it's horrible, disgusting. Honestly, how many more?

I feel for everyone affected by this attack.

It would be a quick conclusion to make, but one we should be careful about. The same conclusion was drawn after the Orlando attack, but from what I remember of that angle, he was a sympathizer at most rather than an actual operative. I think taking that angle until it's proven to be more than that would be wise.

As far as I know, (most of) the ISIS-controlled oilfields have already been bombed, along with money storages and whatnot. ISIS is already in dire straits financially, having to cut the salaries of their men and increase taxes. Even in such a state though, ISIS can hit hard when they want, as was proven in Baghdad.

meh only 73 thats not too much

It's devastating, tho, so rest in peace :c

Actually that's a rather high number. It rivals the bombings done in november in kill count yet this was all done by one man in one location instead of 8 men in multiple locations. How often do you encounter one man killing that many people?

"only" 73? lol what the hell
oh come on the world is full of people I'm not saying it's not a shame they died but it's not a big loss objective in a objective way

I'm not excusing ISIS though, no one should have the right of taking others lives, no matter what

Well with that type of thinking you might as well stop caring about terrorism and terrorist attacks as a whole since the kill count rarely exceeds like a 100.

Besides it's more about the lives affected than the death count. A guy was driving over hundreds of people after a celebration. Don't you think that's just a little bit traumatizing to people regardless of whether they survived or just got hurt? Many families were affected by the event and many people got traumatized after almost being driven over by a truck and after seeing people be driven over. It's more about the emotional damage caused on many more than 73 people than just the death count.

I know. I'm dumb but not enough in order not to realise that this is a shame and devastating bc 73 people died and because families lost their loved ones

It's disgustingly horrible that terrorism is still a thing.

What I don't get is why has France been targeted by ISIS, like, they could target more countries, but why France? :/

Because France is an easy target

Also the French had some history with Muslims in the Middle East

I hate to say it, but this kind of stuff is becoming disturbingly routine and maybe it's time to start stepping over people's liberties to stop these attacks from happening.

that's terrible. my heart and prayers go out to the injured or killed, and the families of the people who have been hurt or killed. that's absolutely heart-breaking.
