Not even sure if this is worth making considering nobody watches them anymore. Still, are you watching the Oscars right now? What are your thoughts and predictions? Were you expecting certain wins? Feel free to put down any thoughts and feelings about the films nominated and the awards ceremony even after it ends.

Honestly Rachel Zegler looks stunning tonight. I'm wanting West Side Story to win best motion picture but from the way its going so far it seems like Dune is gonna clean up.

(Which is completely understandable, from what I heard Dune was incredible sooo)

I don't think anyone is shocked Encanto won best animated feature. Congrats to them!!

I only know about it since Will Smith punched Chris Rock after Chris made a joke about his wife's look. Another layer to this onion is, apparently Will Smith's wife cheated on him with someone half his age, sometime before this. I don't think I can post the uncensored video, but at the moment, it is on youtube.

i mainly watched just because billie eilish was nominated for original song and i wanted to see her preform. i’m not surprised by her well deserved win but i am surprised that house of gucci didn’t win anything since everyone thought that movie was amazing.

i didn’t see will smith punch chris rock tho, i was going to the bathroom and afterwards my grandma told me that will smith punched someone. i thought maybe he softly punched someone as a joke or something. i saw his speech tho

i honestly couldn’t care less about the oscars (or any awards show in general), but last night’s had me wishing that i did so that i could’ve seen will and chris’ little… interaction live. that doesn’t mean i condone what either of them did, though; chris’ alopecia joke was cheap and not very funny imo, but will took it too far. slapping/punching a guy at an awards show, on live television and in front of an audience? gross. and what was that “keep my wife’s name out of your ****ing mouth” ****? he’s lucky that chris isn’t filing a police report tbh.

also, the whole thing honestly confuses me because when the camera panned to will and jada after the joke was made, will was seen smiling. jada clearly wasn’t happy, though. so, either will had a slow reaction time and didn’t immediately process what chris said, or it was jada’s reaction/something she did or said to will that led him to do what he did. regardless, it was unnecessary. i don’t blame jada for being upset at the joke, but it could’ve waited to be addressed until, i don’t know, they weren’t surrounded by an audience and cameras?? no reason to cause a spectacle like that imo.

but on a lighter note, lady gaga and liza minelli’s interaction was super sweet and deserves to be talked about more than will and chris do.

I don't watch it because of the big time difference. However year on year it comes across as a right borefest with bad jokes from comedians and everyone saying how the Oscars has passed it prime as the top award show in Hollywood. What I will say about last night's ceremony is that both Chris Rock and Will Smith were both in the wrong for that incident that has since gone viral online and taken the spotlight away from more serious situations going on in the world that deserves to be headline news.

I've never cared about the Oscars, not even when it was in its "prime," but that interaction between Chris Rock and Will Smith was something else, lmao. 🥴

I'm not sure if house of gucci was even nominated for anything, rip

That whole Will Smith thing... well I watched it live and I seriously thought it was a setup.
And then he won best actor like 30 minutes later his speech was real awkward👀
man's bout to get sued
@xara you summed up how i feel about the situation. It's really not hollywood without drama though, huh

In other news, Coda winning best picture and best supporting actor made me a bit emotional. Troy Kotsur's speech was really sweet.
Billie's performance was amazing, as usual. Congrats to her and Finneas.

yeah i wasn’t 100% sure if house of gucci was nominated either, i just said that because i saw on another website that people were expecting gaga to come but she ended up going to elton john’s event.

I always binge movies, I hadn't seen many of the nominated ones, but its always a tradition to watch them lol

I found this one really entertaining, and Im super happy Koda won, such a good movie.

Then ya know, that slap was defintly a highlight of it, good on Will.

Don't care for the Oscars. Haven't watched them in ages and I never really tuned in to them to begin with. With how advanced the internet is and all, the Oscar's are kind of a dying breed.

I only know of it because of Will Smith's altercation with Chris Rock. Sure his joke was in poor taste, but Will's action's don't make it right to do. Now the Oscar's are saying how they don't condone violence. Yet they let him accept the award and have his speech? Our society just keeps getting stupider and stupider.

It's kind of sad that there are so many memes coming out of this and no one is really commenting on how toxic any of this is. Will is ok with his wife being loose on him but needs to defend her honor? It's just stupid and the Oscar's need to lose relevancy. And honestly so does Will.

part of me still thinks it was staged lol, I haven't watched it or any part of the Oscar's, but I've heard a lot about it and it seems absolutely wild. idk if it's out of character for Will tho cause I'm not at all caught up on the actor/movie scene.

I watched it (I guessed I was weird) last night. When I saw Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, I was shocked. That was crazy.

Encanto won the Best Animated Feature. Awesome! BTS talked about some Disney movies. Double awesome!

call me a conspiracist or whatever but I think the whole joke+slap thing was 100% staged. The Oscars haven't been doing well for a long time, now everyone is talking about it. They didn't stop Will from going on stage, they didn't kick Will out after it happened, they even gave him an award, and Chris Rock didn't look too stunned to me. Idk.
Will Smith's career will easily survive this, and Chris Rock will get a boosted career, Jada gets more press, and the Oscars will live on longer. Wins all around.

Bear in mind that, though you'd be forgiven for assuming otherwise, there is a certain degree of professionalism involved in these sort of public appearances. The fact that Will was smiling at the time could mean a number of things. Just some possible scenarios to explain the discrepancy include but do not limit to-
  • Will was attempting to remain amicable despite his frustration, but seeing his wife's distress caused him to abandon the charade.
  • Will wasn't quite sure what he had heard at first.
  • Some people express discontent through smiles and laughter. See, for example, the phenomenon of "nervous laughter."
  • Movie magic; cameras chose to focus on Will during a very specific moment.
In short, the way in which people outwardly express different emotions is vast, and it's impossible to judge how someone feels entirely by a facial expression, particularly one that is presented to us only briefly.

This wasn't related to extramarital affairs. Jada's appearance is as it is currently as a result of an autoimmune disorder she suffers from, so to comment on her appearance so callously is incredibly insensitive. It would be akin to scoffing at someone's bare scalp after they had just underwent chemotherapy. I'm not saying this to justify Will's actions, but to point out that Chris Rock's comment was more than just kind of mean-spirited.

As for my opinion on the matter, I am not the type to condone violence, but I am baffled as to what outcome Chris Rock expected from such a brazen comment. Otherwise, I don't really care about the Oscars. I just wanted an excuse to talk about Will Smith.

I don't watch the Oscars, stopped watching it many years ago because I dislike how much it changed. But it was interesting of what happened with Will and Chris. Tbh that's the only thing that caught my attention.

Gaga and Liza are queens. I don't care about the will Smith thing. Samuel L Jackson getting his first (honorary) Oscar is awesome and the first afro Latina LGBT actress getting an award is amazing. And an award to a deaf actor.
