I'm sooo lucky I had one of those sea shell things before the site changed so I can change my name pretty easily. Unfortunately thinking about changing my name again but I'm in no rush.

It's always been around the low 4-digits. I remember them being 1k TBT several years ago, but I'm not 100% certain. Regardless, the high cost is meant to make sure that people can't change their username without a very strong desire to do so.
