Worst Fanfiction you ever read?

Ironic that you say that, since 50 shades of gray is originally a Twilight fanfiction believe it or not.

The saddest part is that it was a missed opportunity in making reader x character fanfics go in the "Choose Your Own Adventure" route where the story actually had bad endings if you make a wrong choice. Or the story alters with each decision you make.

Granted, OC x characters are a guilty pleasure of mine as long as they are not harming anybody or wouldn't force anyone to praise it too much.

As for the worst fanfics question, the worst fanfics for me are the Loud House fanfics. Like why is that show popular to begin with?

storyline-wise, i’m not sure what the worst one i’ve read is. i dont read much of it anymore, but i remember the main thing that would turn me off from reading was if it was really poorly written (bad grammar, spelling, etc.). i would stop reading immediately once i found myself mentally correcting all of the little mistakes

Any fanfics that involve real life people being shipped together, bonus points if they're deceased and/or already taken in real life. Extra bonus points if said ship fanfics contain nsfw content.

I remember coming across a Reagan X Bush Sr smut fanfic once, and needless to say, I felt really disgusted and weirded out. Considering the fact that both of these presidents are deceased, I find this fanfic to be really insensitive and disrespectful to them.

OK so jumping in to add one Dobby x Hagrid story was…funny to read at the time, but kinda gross. Also any of the Jaken x Rin or Jaken x Sesshomaru ones are icky to me lol.

Gotta say the worst fanfiction I read (Didn't finish it) by far was *Little Miss Rarity*

The very thought makes me uncomfortable, it's so messed up, and to top it off the creator was a really messed up person. Hands down the worst Fanfiction I've ever laid eyes on, and only semi read. Not saying anymore about it.

I was going to say 50 Shades but somebody kind of beat me to it.

There’s a lot of fanfic out there that could promote pretty unhealthy things but it comes with the restraint of a small audience and one generally/hopefully with better media literacy than the general public. A lot of people on Ao3 must be more media literate because they know how to navigate the site and are proactively looking, and Ao3 is the main fic hub. There’s stuff out there that feels illegal to have around and as someone who LIKES dark fics, there’s a lot up that I just absolutely hate based on its subject alone.

But 50 Shades is just normie stuff at this point and it’s done a lot of damage, so. I believe there were some other series kind of like that as well but it’s just the most contemporary and personally galvanising answer. Not like some fics can’t do damage or cause drama in smaller scope but yeah screw 50 Shades. The author seems pretty awful too.

… wait, I never read it, I just know some of the funny lines like the chocolate fudge thing and turning red like the Communist Manifesto. Yeah I’m not going to answer this question literally. I guess My Immortal. Lol

Ofc my old fanfic from when I was a kid was pretty bad, I’ll share one nugget, I didn’t understand that siblings being together was always wrong (just never thought about it) so I made a self-insert OC who was the sister of the main character and I shipped them lmao

Yeah, honestly it's even worse when you see the amount of kudos and hits those should-be-illegal fics have. It's honestly disgusting. Ao3 is definitely the easiest site to navigate and filter through, thankfully (if people tag correctly), so it's a lot easier to parse through things you don't want to read. But October is a mess and I usually have to pull out all the stops with filtering tags (if you know ao3 in October you know what I mean ).
