The art portion of the museum actually confirms a lot of real life events to have happened in Animal Crossing, but 1 of the 6 paintings which have appeared in every game, is the “Worthy Painting”, the in universe name for Liberty Leading the People. I don’t really think that this could have any canon explanation other than the events of the French Revolution actually taking place in Animal Crossing, because of the very nature of the painting. Similar vibes to the “Piece of the Berlin Wall” collectible from Tomodachi Life, it’s so jarring and desperately off-tone. Pretty bizarre.

I like to think that the universe in Animal Crossing takes place like... hundreds of millions years later.. Animals have evolved to stand upright, talk, and sell you a house. Meanwhile, humans no longer need fingers.

Luckily the old art, books, tv shows, etc. have survived this long stretch of time

I still get weirded out seeing the David statue in the game lol. But yeah…also Ancient Egypt, the Roman Empire, etc. are also in the Animal Crossing universe.

Also, the fossils and all the information Blathers gives on the species, their time period, and their extinction proves even prehistoric times existed in the series. One I found amusing was the mammoth in the first Animal Crossing where Blathers mentions the cruelty of humans for leading such creatures to extinction right to the players face. They become aware of our human history...
