I did just look it up and apparently it's considered rude in most cases and most tend not to use it because it implies they don't intend/want to see the other person(s) anymore.I learned that 'sayonara' doesn't actually mean "goodbye" in Japanese...it literally means "if that's the way it is", or "if it is to be that way"...the nuance of which, I find one million times more valuable than the English equivalent (of which there is basically none).
