The "I learned something new today!" Thread

I learned that Ric Flair is called the “Nature Boy” because he defeated the original Nature Boy wrestler (Buddy Rogers) a long time ago. Ric Flair also copied his persona and finishing hold.

Not today, but recently:
>Betta fish have tongues.
>Fish fart.
>When a dojo loach needs help farting, its butt floats vertically while the rest of it swims horizontally.
> Most Gouramis are just as aggressive if not worse than Bettas.
>Chocolate Gouramis exist and they are cute.

Lots of fish facts. Did you just type in 'do fish fart?' lol

I learned this a while back, but others might find it interesting. The US military actually bought and trained camels back in the 1800s to travel through the deserts. The soldiers hated them because they were aggressive and spat. They camel crop didn't last very long and was disbanded before the Civil War broke out.

Actually I was learning about dojo loaches and I guess a bunch of people posted in forums online about their dojo's butt floating and was afraid it was dying and turns out they just needed help farting.

til that salmon sharks exist. just itty bitty little guys.

that there was something called the “animal crossing pioneers program” in 2002 before the NA release of population growing. only a few hundred people were selected by nintendo and received a beta copy of the game along with a calendar and had access to their own forum to discuss with other participants.

dunno how I didn't realize this before, but apparently Rowlet is a grass type  and flying type. always thought that Bulbasaur was the only dual-typed base stage starter pokemon.

If you hover over gifted collectibles, it will show you who gifted them and even a message when one was left!
that's why I love when people leave messages on my collectibles, I always enjoy reading them 💞

I just realized that the starter trio from Galar, namely the fully evolved forms (Rillaboom, Cinderace, Inteleon), are the first starter trio to all be mono type since the Johto starters. I somehow never realized that all three are mono type, I guess at this point I expected at least one of them to have a secondary typing 😅

I've learned that the "Great Stink of 1858" is a thing that actually happened in history, where the untreated waste and River Thames stink up the entire Central London during summer.

This man’s health condition and arranged marriage possibly inspired the Beauty and Beast fairy tale. I saw a more detailed video about him, and he was treated like an animal by the French royal court, being fed raw meat in a cage. He had multiple children, some of whom inherited the excessive hair condition. Their portraits are also interesting.

I'm really late to this but I just learned there is an oversight in Animal Crossing where you can obtain this placeholder item called DUMMY.
The footage I found is from 14 years ago and by... someone who has an account here, haha. Neat.

i’ve once again come to show you all the latest new shark that i’ve learned about today: the basking shark! it’s literally one of the scariest creatures i’ve ever seen, but even though it doesn’t look it, the basking shark is actually pretty harmless. you’re more likely to get hurt by accidentally getting scratched by its rough skin than anything else. it’s the second largest living shark (after the whale shark), so it’s a big boy! very eerie looking and i don’t think i’d ever want to run into one xnsincjd, but they’re very cool! 🦈

i also learned about creatonotos gangis, a type of arctiine moth! it can be found in australia (of course 🤣) and south east asia. it lowkey looks like something that came straight out of stranger things, and i want to encounter one even less than i do a basking shark LOL, but i also think it’s a pretty neat looking creature! seems like a fun design to try and draw.

fun fact, I joined this forum because of my brother, and he joined because he found out about it through watching jvgsjeff's videos and talking to him!

Today I learned that bunnies don't have paw pads or toe beans! It's all floof and no pad.
yep, that's why they need bedding in their cage. if they walk around on a hard surface a lot it'll tear up their poor little feet. it's interesting that it really is all floof and no bean.
