The "I learned something new today!" Thread

Lori and George Schnappell are the first recorded conjoined twins to be of different genders after George transitioned.
I think they’re the same conjoined twins where one is a country singer and the other isn’t?
There’s also conjoined twin women in Minnesota who are fifth-grade teachers. They were on some TLC show years ago and now they have regular lives. It’s interesting to me.

Yup! George is the country singer, and Abby and Brittany Hensel are the teachers. It’s amazing how they can live such separate lives!

I know it sounds strange, but I’ve been interested in conjoined twins for a while. I bought a biography of Chang and Eng Bunker (“Siamese twins”)from a local book fair, and I learned a lot of new things. Like, for example, their wives’ parents were more concerned that their daughters were marrying Asian men than the fact that they were conjoined twins (they married two sisters), and their sons fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War.

Have you heard of Carmen and Lupita? They have a youtube channel and have done vlogs, Q&As, etc!

I learned on TV tropes that Jesus's last name is not Christ. But he's usually just referred to with titles like Jesus of Nazareth, so I don't know what it actually is. I also learned that Jesus's name is said more in the Quran that Muhammad's name, but this is only because Muhammad is usually referred to by titles, so his actual name is written less.
Christ is another word for Messiah. Nazareth is the city Jesus grew up in.
Jesus was born in Bethlehem due to a census call for taxes. Joseph had to go there for it because he was a decent of David (so was Mary). While there, Jesus popped out. After Jesus was born, they went to Egypt for a time due to King Herod about to decree a slaughter of all male children two years old and under. After Herod passed, they then went to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, where Jesus grew up.

I didn't know that about the Quran. That's pretty interesting. Do you have an interest in the Quran?

I'm not specifically very interested in the Quran, but I did also learn this on TV tropes on the same page, which is why I put it down, and it also did surprise me.

today I learned that I did a genetic test to see why I have seizures (they started back in May of either 2022/2021, and haven't happened since June of that same year), and I have yet to see the results. yay...
They probably lost them. You might want to call whoever did them and see if they can figure out what happened.

Legless lizards exist, I’ve seen pictures of ones with vestigial legs but I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a picture of fully legless ones until now.

Sogen Kato was once considered Tokyo's oldest man, but people hadn’t seen him in a while. His family said he was a “human vegetable.” However, in 2010, officials visited his house to celebrate Respect for the Aged Day and found his mummified corpse. He died in 1978 at the age of 79. His cause of death is unknown, but some relatives claim he was a devout Buddhist who mummified himself. Nevertheless, it’s widely thought his family lied to keep their fame from the record.

You can find out how many views a thread has. I just learned this like a minute ago.
