Okay, so I finally (finally!) boughty my first mechanical keyboard. It's in the mail, but I can't wait to get it! I have Gateron Mechanical Red switches, but it's hotswappable so I'm tempted to try out tactical switches as well in the future when i'm no longer poor
Anyways, I have a 96% layout, which crams in a numpad while sacrificing some breathing room to get most of the keys on the board. I got it because I use the numpad a LOT when working in excel/matlab and have to enter in batches of numbers for calculating, but I really wanted the size of a TKL because my desks are so small.

I was curious as to what TBT users have!

Do you have a separate keyboard? Or do you primarily use your laptop keyboard?

What's your preferred layout? 60%? TKL? Full-size? Other?

Nerd(?) stuff incoming:
If you use a mechanical, what switches do you like and why?

Do you have any keycaps that you really enjoy? A preference on ABS/PBT plastic or other materials? Keycap profile?

Does your keyboard have fancy RGB lighting? Do you wish it did?

Do you hate Apple's butterfly switches? the only correct answer is yes, because why would you like these horribly designed messes

I have the Razor Huntsman keyboard. It glows pretty colours and makes loud clack noises when keys are pressed. That's about as much as I understand about keyboard technology.

I have an older razer blackwidow. It (thankfully) does not light up and is super loud, but I love the crackly keyclick sounds it makes. It's full size, which is definitely my preference, plus it has a few extra keys for gaming and an extra super handy usb port. My favorite thing about it is that the cord is super thick and braided, which is the type of cord my cat doesn't eat.

At home, I use my laptop keyboard. At work, I just use whatever keyboard they provide. I am a stickler for having a number pad, though, because I use it so frequently. I bought my current laptop mainly because it included a number pad, even though it makes my laptop huge and heavy. That's ok because I don't carry it around much, anyway. It stays plugged in at my desk 99% of the time.

I have a separate keyboard because I have a desktop. I use the laptop keyboard when I'm actually using the laptop since I don't usually need it for long periods of time. Work gave me a laptop but I have a USB switch in order to use my personal keyboard without have to unplug wires. I did get a second mechanical keyboard for work when I went into the office because I hate the laptop keyboard.

Full size or TKL. I have a full size right now.

I have Cherry MX Brown cause I want the feedback but not as loud as blues. But I probably won't care if they were blues. I hate reds

Does your keyboard have fancy RGB lighting? Do you wish it did?
Yes! I have it flash a cross when I press a keyright now in an aqua color. I had it purple and rainbow before.

I don't like apple products. The only one I would consider getting is an ipad to look at videos and recipes when I'm cooking.

I'm considering getting a white RBG keyboard in the future with custom keycaps. But I haven't decided on what I want just yet or found custom keycaps artists I want to commission.

personally im not picky with keyboards at all, which helps me save money. I don't really like RGB ones, i think the lights are distracting.
my tower came with a real simple flat keyboard and i have no issues with it, honestly its less clacky then a regular mechanical keyboard and i really like that lol.

I have a PC + a laptop !!

60% is the perfect size!!!!!!

I use my PC keyboard for gaming so I don't find the need for the extra keys like number pad etc!

YESSSS, mechanical!!! Mine are gateron blue switches, they're super click (and annoying when you're in a call), I really want red switches next, they're like the opposite they're super silent but I think I'm ready for a change!

Do you have any keycaps that you really enjoy? A preference on ABS/PBT plastic or other materials? Keycap profile?
I have blue, pink and white keycaps rn! Since my PC rig is white, pink and blue themed, they're PBT plastic :3 (there's pics of my keyboard on my ig linked in my sig if ur interested!!)

Does your keyboard have fancy RGB lighting? Do you wish it did?
YESSS RGB, and loads of presets!!

cuz obviously more RGB = more FPS ;)

Do you hate Apple's butterfly switches?
I have the apple butterfly switches on my macbook! tbh when I first got my macbook I HATED them, like absolutely hated them >< im super used to them now and actually its really super quick for me to type essays and do my school work, and they're relatively quiet.
