The Official Feedback Thread

So what’s next for official responses? I’m always eager for new updates.

For my part, I plan on writing a post covering the various major points about collectibles and bells that have come up in the threads, with some potential changes that have been floating around in my head. Understandably, I hope, the current event has put a bit of a stall on this thread for the moment. But we'll be back!

Though I also wanted to point out that in several recent events (going back to 2020), the staff were overly generous in giving out TBT Fair awards. Case in point, the Colorful Confetti event had 18 staff favorites, 9 per round. Looking back at the 2016 TBT Fair and 2017 TBT Fair, the Bucket of Paint only had five staff favorite awards per event. Some of the other events also went overboard on staff favorites (and raffle winners as well). I’m not sure if it was better to hand out more awards, or fewer awards.

I would agree that this is the case, there's definitely been a slow upward trend over time in the number of winners. However, on the flip side, I do wonder if this can almost make it feel worse for some people when there are more winners and they're still not on that list. So as you say, I'm not sure if it's made the problem better or worse.

In my opinion, having more fair award winners last year was more understandable or excusable given that it’s the 20th anniversary of TBT. Making it extra special was a good idea. I will also say that part of the reason why it was easier to get staff favorites was more about all of the event staff having their personal favorites, not just to make it fairer for everyone.

But for future events, one thing I could suggest is that while there should be fewer award winners, those who do win an honorable mention can get a free collectible of their choice, given that it’s distributed during the same event only. For instance, using the 2017 TBT Fair, had there been nine winners instead of five per event, but only five got the Tetris Grid, the other four that got honorable mentions can choose a different gradient feather (or an original arcade collectible) as the prize. I’m not sure if this would be a good idea, but I did want to come up with a 50/50 solution to this.

I still hope we will be able to lock our own threads in the future. 🤞🏻

Could you elaborate on what you mean? What types of threads or boards are you currently unable to lock that you would like to, and why? I believe the boards that have clear reasons for the starter to close already allow for that, but if we're missing an obvious one.

Quoting my last post in this thread:
Is there a particular reason why regular users can’t lock their own threads? There are a few threads of mine (some more than others) I wish to lock, and even if it’s not erasing them from view, at least they won’t be bumped.

I would love for this to be considered for the future. Of course, staff would still be able to respond to locked threads to my knowledge, at least, so what’s really the harm? /genq

Some of the threads I’m referring to are threads maybe from the past that aren’t relevant anymore. Also, there are some threads I made that I wish I hadn’t, such as the “would you be friends with someone with opposing beliefs?” Threads like those only cause drama, and I was too dumb to see it at the time. I feel like locking it would prevent it from being bumped. Letting those threads be buried would be the best thing, I think.

I also think older members that made silly threads when they were younger also wouldn’t want their threads to surface.

Well, to be fair, if you really want to close your thread yourself, you can always just report the first post and ask the mods to lock it.

I understand. It was more just a genuine question of why regular users can’t lock their own thread. I just don’t see the harm in it, but it’s not a big deal.

Can I give feedback about the ads at the top of the forum?
This one is taking up most of the screen on my phone... I feel like that's not supposed to be happening.

I know TBT does this during events but I think it'd be very awesome and cool if there was a "daily" where you could click on the banner tree and it would give you TBT bells - maybe someone gets a big sum!! or.. maybe you get nothing.... I am only thinking about this because I feel like there is a lack of TBT bells out there
Just a silly idea

Or maybe... if there was like.. a random event... like if Tom Nook was behind the tree at a random time... and it was a rare sighting...
I say this like TBT is a game or something LMAO
If I am thinking about it like if it was a game though, I can imagine a little bulletin board like how there is one in PMD and maybe you could do little requests like how Leif posted his and do work for certain NPCs or something

As a more casual user, I’m finding this ice cream event really annoying. I don’t want to participate, yet every time I visit the site I am bombarded with notifications on incredibly random posts. It makes seeing if I have any actual notifications way too difficult.

Quoted for references for staff.

The clicking on the tree in the banner daily for bells will encourage members to log in daily and more ad exposure for the site to gather needed funds. It would be nice for members who are consistently on the forums to get a little reward. Or you could do super simply daily tasks for some tbt, but that requires a little more work from staff.

I have to agree with potato if a member is casual. Perhaps having the options to turn off reactions easier to access or more noticable to help avoid notification spams. That way tag notifications aren't buried. Or perhaps event reactions are a completely separate category from everything normal in the forums in the notifications.

Event reactions could just be a separate thing all together. A toggle could be available to turn event related emoji notification stuff off up in the bar by the notification icon and such.

You can turn off notifications for when someone leaves reactions on your posts by going to settings and under preferences, hope this helps

Considering this isn't the first April Fools event to be notification-heavy I think it'd be a good idea to opt out of April Fools altogether. I know a few people who kinda struggle with April Fools on different sites 'cause it's either overwhelming with all the visual stimulation/disorientation and/or hard for them to discern jokes from sincerity so it might be worth looking into

Or to just opt out of all event-theming, so event-specific reactions and visuals like splattered posts would be turned off. I remember space camp initially had its own colourful site theme that for me was very eyestraining since I have pretty sensitive eyes, especially with screens, but thankfully Jeremy made it optional.

Not really. I’d still like to get reaction notifications, just not 10 saying I’ve been splatted with strawberry.
You could turn off notifications temporarily when the event is going on. And once it’s over, you can turn them back on.

I don’t have my reaction notifications on. I only get notifications when someone has replied to me.

Maybe a toggle to "opt in" for event emoji notifications would make more sense for those who wish to participate. It could be toggled in on the event announcement post.

Another solution to seek. As I was going through my inventory, both the 2024 Holiday Candy Cane and 2024 TBT Fair Patch don’t have the option to discard. I would like it for all award collectibles (trophies, animated fair collectibles etc.) to have their discard option disabled, as well as the other patches and limited-time non-tradable collectibles.

Oo can all collectibles that cannot be discarded because they are awards and special things be displayed on the profile page of a member? Maybe under a little banner or on one of the pages to click to? I feel like they are scattered and hidden away in inventories all the time. It would be nice to find them somewhere displayed.
