I have noticed a very interesting fad going on... Although you can't quite call it a fad. It's basically this - everyone is buying games that are repetitive as can be, but are missing out on the best of the bunch, the actually ORIGINAL games! Let's take a look at a game called "New Super Mario Brothers". Was it a great game? Indeed it was. Was it original and did it try to do anything new? No, not really. We got new powerups, but that was the extent of it. However, once in a blue moon, comes up a game like Elite Beat Agents...
...And it is met with a small fanbase and disappointing sales. Even Reggie HIMSELF admitted that the game sold poorly! Although there is a dedicated bunch of gamers that love the game to end (I quality as one of them), in reality, the game wasn't received well in the sense that it hasn't sold well. In short, what I'm getting at is that original games are dying out because of gamers and because we choose to ignore new and original properties. As if this wasn't a big enough crime, we have this - let's take a game like Yoshi's Island DS. While it isn't the most original game, it isn't selling well either, compared to New Super Mario Brothers. However, YIDS is obviously much more original, colorful, and better than NSMB, and yet gamers buy the game that has the "Mario" name. Although of course, New Super Mario Brothers is a great game, it did not deserve the hype it got.
It might be too late when gamers realize what they are doing to the gaming world and how they might bring upon its downfall very soon. Does anyone else agree with me?
