The Rune Factory thread!

Participated in the bean festival today and failed miserably. Next day, I over worked myself without noticing my stats and ended up in the hospital. Im hoping my luck starts to go up.

Ive meet with and talked to everyone in town. Everyone has their own uniqueness/quirk associated with them. Almost wish there were more characters but Ill take whats given. Both Karina and Marian are currently tied for my affection but im leaning more towards Marian.

I plan on going monster hunting soon. Days just dont last long enough xD

So I've been experimenting between both magic and spears. I don't remember there being skills in the earlier game but I welcome the change. It feels more like an a normal RPG now. As far as adventuring goes, I've only traveled a small distance because I've been working more on the farm daily and I put the monster difficulty on hard mode. I know how hard the game is by itself but I want to make things more interesting.

Something I've been thinking about is that I really hope future Rune Factory games hybridize the way Rune Factory 3 and Rune Factory 5 handle the character events. I still think 5 handles it better than the way it's so heavily based on RNG in 4, but it's still not ideal—I spend a lot of 5's early game trying to dodge pink map markers so I can get to the one I want to start, and it's not always fun when one gets locked behind another character's just because they share the same location, or when you end a multi-day character event in one location and it immediately sends you straight into another, especially when you typically only have time IRL to play through 1-3 in-game days at a time...

But one of the things I'm really loving while playing 3 Special is the character events being done through requests. It's really nice just taking them on at my own pace, when I feel like I want to get to know a certain character better. That being said, I initially mistook "asking someone to hang out" as equivalent to later games' asking someone if they want to go on an adventure, and now I'm accidentally dating everyone and Wells is questioning my intentions with his granddaughter
I haven't done all the girls' events yet, but Sofia's last one actually made me feel so bad. With all the emotional confessions of love from her, and Evelyn and Sherman congratulating us and talking about how they'd miss her when we got married and she'd move in with me, while here I am liking Sofia as a friend and actively planning to marry Shara...

So where my hopes of hybridization come in for future games is that I definitely want them to keep the more overtly romantic events locked behind confessing your love to a character—I've no complaints about 5's three special date events followed by a fourth final one—but handling the bulk of pre-dating ones through the request board or similar. The early character events that are just short cutscenes (like most of the second events in RF5) could even be left as map marker events for variety/a more natural feeling. But overall I think it'd be a nice solution from 4's "just keep playing or continually reset event days until you get the one you want" and 5's pink map marker chaos.

I don't mind the regular town events being left random, as long as it's not a prerequisite for plot/romance progress it's usually a pretty fun way to do it imo.

I was hoping for a liiittle more news about Project Dragon from the Marvelous showcase today, but now that we've seen a little more of them, I have to say I do like the protagonist designs! I think Iwasaki might not be working on the character designs for this one? At least, I didn't sense any of her style in what we've seen thus far, which is a little sad, but I am very happy that the designs seem to be going for a slightly older/more mature look!! It's giving me high hopes for the designs of the love interests, since I'm not really a huge fan of cutesy designs in games with romance.

I usually play heroines in life-sim games when it's an option, but right now I feel like I'm actually leaning towards choosing the male protagonist, Subaru! Both of them look great, but his energy is coming across as the more relatable to me of the pair and I like his hair more. I imagine it's pretty likely with its inclusion in RF5 and recent SoS games, but I hope there'll still be same-gender relationships in Project Dragon so that won't have to factor into my decision.

I hope we'll get more info on other characters and the life-sim elements next time!

Picked up Rune Factory 3 Special to give the series a second try and so far I think I like the cast of 4 more. 3 still looks promising gameplay wise though.

the new SoS protagonist designs also seem to be an improvement from the ultra chibi previous games ^^; hopefully they'll bring back character portraits this time around, I rly miss those...

for project dragon, I also don't rly vibe with kaguyas hair djfjdk I was hoping it would be dark like subaru's. We didn't see much but it seems cool so far. tho I kinda hope the genshin esque graphics/models are only used in this spin off and not in rune factory 6. otherwise it would be taking away rune factory's unique style

Yeah, I'll be sad if Iwasaki has moved on from doing Rune Factory's art ;u; It's a little hard to tell from the 3D models alone, but the way she does eyes is fairly distinct and I'm not seeing it there, especially compared to RF5's 3D models. Like, she tends not to emphasize the lower lashline much and RF5's models stick pretty closely to this, but it's modeled very clearly on both Subaru and Kaguya. Her Rune Factory art has largely leaned on the cuter side, but she can definitely do older/more mature character designs too, and that's always kind of the ideal RF art direction I've hoped for It still has the cooler look they seem to be leaning towards without sacrificing the aesthetic the series is known for.

If not in Project Dragon, I hope she'll be doing designs for RF6!

that's true! the eyes seem to be the biggest difference but seeing the same monsters like Wooly etc keeps the rf vibe :] I'm also curious about the potentially more serious (?) tone this game will have o: maybe more story focused since farming doesn't seem to be a feature in it

i'm back playing another playthrough of rf4 (don't want to think what number this is), i just can't get over how much i love it

i told myself i should play more of rf5 or special edition 3 but they're just incomparable to me compared to 4
