Your village will automatically fill you up to 9 random animals, or you can get villagers from other people/the campsite still.

Edit: Wow that was an awful sentence.

The game will always try to make you have 9 animals by giving you random animals unless you fill the spots up yourself.

Don't worry, the villagers will keep coming by themselves until it hits 9.
 
The game will TT to the day the 3DS has, and since the digital copy is stored on the SD, it will affect the game as well ... which is something you don't want as you would risk losing villagers on the digital copy.

Haha, I didn't even notice
To be fair my question was pretty hard to word myself and I was honestly expecting someone to quote me simply with the word 'Eh?'. Okay then, that makes sense - I just haven't had any new arrivals since I reached 9 at the start of the game so thanks for clearing this up

So it's all fine using both digital & physical copy of the game in the same 3DS right?
If so, I guess I'll try looking for 2nd-hand copy.
