I enjoy using Tumblr, but I don't think there is any best or worst platform. People can be really terrible on all of them so there's really no winning.
Social media strikes severe anxiety I've developed growing up bullied and socially rejected and isolated by kids and adults alike, I honestly prefer places that don't focus on individual people but more on interesting topics like fan forums and small groups where I feel I can belong and feel like I can talk about things that people can relate to and understand.

Aw I feel you on this. Bullying is so painful, speaking from experience. The internet is a scary place. I do feel that TBT is a haven from all of the usual toxicity. I hope you feel that way too. <3
I come from the facebook era and I think it's the worst (you get a lot of older generations on there spouting their racist / homophobic / bigoted views) Also because someone managed to hack into my account and somehow get the account banned while I was asleep - turned out it happened to hundreds of people. Facebook help centre refused to do anything about it - I lost A LOT (like my entire teenage years) of memories because of that.
Instagram is the best and the worst for me - I love using it to link up with other creatives like myself and to post my lettering and design work but it is unfortunately SATURATED with absolute morons.
Honestly if I want to come to somewhere to socialize or get stuff off my mind I don't use social media I use this website haha.
Reddit is good if you are on the right subforums - I love r/nosleep where people post their creative horror stories.
Honestly Twitter is a dumpster fire but I still use it. I just stick to my own little bubble of friends because the rest of it is filled with people hating on each other for no reason and constant cancel parties.
Instagram is probably my favorite. I don't post actual pictures very often anymore but I post stories a lot and like to see what everyone else is up to!
Facebook is good for reading other people's drama but that's about it.
I communicate with some friends on insta and hav not had many bad experiences with it. Personally Snapchat is just annoying and I only have it to talk to like five people max. Facebook has been completely taken over by middle aged people and tends to be highly political (basically no one I know besides my parents ever use it). Twitter is something you should only ever go to if you are looking for drama, literally nothing else. I have spent sometime on Pinterest in the past and that one is really chill and almost relaxing for me. YouTube is fine because it’s really easy to choose what content you want to see.
Tumblr was pretty good then everyone left bc the company running it messed everything up
Same thing is happening with twitter except this time there’s not yet a comparable alternative so ppl who use it have nowhere else to go (there’s stuff like mastodon and pillowfort(?) but that’s not big enough yet to be considered an immediate threat to twitter)
Anyway I hate twitter but I use it bc all of my friends use it, plus I will stop at nothing to hype up my gf’s amazing art (hhaelines on twitter check her out)
I mostly like discord and group chats to keep up with people.
But yeah I am becoming less and less a fan of social media in its current form.
Forums are the best form IMO, then I'd probably say Reddit and Tumblr are the next best. Reddit is fine as long as you stay away from the hateful communities and some of the larger subs. It's pretty decent for individual media fandom subreddits though. Tumblr actually I think has gotten better ever since "The Purge™" happened (if you were there, you know the one haha). It seems like a lot of the really immature people left there and went to Twitter instead, and if you curate your follows, Tumblr can be a good experience.
Worst is tough. Facebook is horrible for how easy misinformation and just awful things spread and infect the minds of people, and Twitter is pretty much on the same level, maybe even worse for people being mean and making """funny""" quips to try to get popular. I'm not familiar enough with Instagram, Snapchat, or anything else to judge those.
Discord seems all right if you're in groups of people who are chill, but even when I was in group chats like that, it was just too stressful to me to reply in real-time, so I'm just not a fan.
facebook, twitter, reddit, tik tok, Instagram are toxic imo. That's why I never made an account for those. I only made one for reddit just to get an answer to my question once.

despite it's problems (bad staff, bad report system, glitchiness, etc), tumblr is actually my favorite! i love the sideblog feature, how reblogs work, the complete control over how your blog looks, and the tagging system even though it's broken. here's my pros kinda broken down: sideblogs
- no other social media i'm on has something like this!!! the only thing i can think of that even scratches it is amino with how it's separated into smaller communities. sideblogs are so much more useful than making an entirely new account every time you want a new area to post on w/ a different focus.
- next pro kind of bleeds into this next section.... blog themes
- you can make your blog almost literally look HOWEVER you want with the use of html/css/javascript/etc. i really value being able to customize and decorate my accounts and that's something social medias seem to allow less and less freedom with as time goes on tagging system
- yes, every other social media has tagging, does everyone use it??? NO :( this is especially the case on twitter. instagram users tend to be pretty good about it though
- the ability to blacklist tags! some other places have this (twitter with muted words) but they tend to not be as easy as tumblr. if you want to tag something potentially upsetting on twitter you have to QRT it which isn't very convenient considering how qrts work. tumblr makes this easy by letting you tag every post that is EVER on your blog individually :D
- searching posts on blogs by tag.... i don't use every social media but i don't know any other social media that does this. you can search accounts by words on twitter but it's just not as helpful. on tumblr i tag types of posts, series, characters, and a lot of other stuff so i can easily look back on it and others can blacklist what they don't wanna see
- if you don't want to add on to a post in a way that other people can reblog you can just talk in the tags! there's no replacement for this on twitter. the closest thing is replies, but you can still view those from a section on your account and replies can still be viewed from the original tweet. community
- i think this one is especially specific to me and doesn't apply to as many people as the others, but i like the community on tumblr the most! twitter and instagram kinda feel like the wild west cuz theyre so massive and i could run into any kind of person. tumblr definitely has it's fair share of weirdos but i feel like i'm much more likely to meet people i vibe with on there
also shout out to amino! stupid subscription service, the members are largely kids-mid teens (10-16), and it can be awful depending on which community you're in but i think the functionality is really cool. i love that everything is separated into different communities and that you have a separate profile on each one!!!
AS FOR THE WORST SOCIAL MEDIA.... i can't really say! i guess i'd pick facebook but i hardly spent time on it and deleted my account so i don't really have much of a base to go off of besides it was very confusing to use and felt out of my demographic. if forums count i'd ABSOLUTELY say the myanimelist forums without a second thought. they're a complete garbagefire and have some of the worst people and takes i've ever seen. i'm in for a miserable experience every time i peep in and it's a shame cuz 1. i do like to use MAL to keep track of what i'm watching and 2. these opinions could be applied to nearly every anime centered community online, MAL just happens to be the worst one i've come across.
I DIDNT MEAN TO MAKE THIS A MINI ESSAY i PROMISE tumblr didn't hire me i just started talking about it and ended up being more passionate than i thought XD i'm honestly surprised with how many people bring up the community as a negative point on twitter and insta cuz honestly while their size IS scary i feel like you can still somewhat easily avoid the bad sides..... or maybe i'm just out of the loop LOL
Call me old school, but I really don't use a lot of the popular social media platforms. I have them, but rarely use em
Worst: Probably twitter. That is the most toxic social media platform i've seen. Seems like everyday drama happens on there, or someones getting "cancelled"
Best: erm idk I guess Tumblr, cause I love seeing art and I follow a lot of anime community people
i don't think there's worst or best, it rlly depends on experience
in my case the best is discord, i live on there and it's been fun
worst is twitter, people are punching bags on there but i'm glad i'm not on that side
I think it changes all the time for me, and it especially depends on my age and where I am in life.
For a while, it was Instagram, and then Facebook made it suuuper obvious they bought it out. I try to avoid Facebook like the plague due to how it stresses me out. I liked that Instagram wasn't directly connected to my Facebook presence, but I see Instagram trying to integrate my experience back into my Facebook account and it's really pissing me off.

Yeah Tumblr is good to go on for art. I never look at conversations on there because idk if it's very toxic like others say. But it's also good for QR codes for AC!
Although I don’t post on tumblr much anymore, I had zero problems on tumblr except for some posts randomly getting flagged for adult content when I was just discussing a video game (they ended up being mistakes thankfully). I should browse tumblr and post more again. I had so many fun discussions on FFX and I had fun writing some reviews on some of my favorite games. I also showcased my favorite HHD designs though it wasn’t successful; didn’t get many likes so i was debating and still am from time to time deleting them.
For me, the social media I hate are Facebook (and I don’t like Zuckerberg) and i am debating deleting mine eventually, reddit - i use it for game help, and instagram. The only reason I say instagram is when I reported someone for bullying, instagram told me they don’t consider trolling a form of bullying. hmmm.... I’ve stopped cheering a sports team on on both instagram and twitter thanks to someone being really rude to me; i know i shouldn’t let them get them me but with serious anxiety, it really is not easy to ignore and forget. had instagram decided to act about that, maybe i wouldn’t have let it bother me.
Reddit and Imgur - the downvotes. someone asked me for screenshot when i was asking about an issue i had in FFBE when i used to play it, i ended up get over 100 downvotes when i posted it in imgur (now i know to keep them private). Again downvotes shouldn’t matter but they bother me because i have severe anxiety and things like that bother me even though i don’t want to. I would love to partake in discussions about one game i play aside from asking for help on team building or something, but can’t because people are just way too toxic.
Twitter i hate the word limit since i like to type a lot and i hate how they let some people get away with racism and other things against their terms, but they take down a person with no special status if they break the rules. I like it aside from that even though this used to be the number one social media i wanted to avoid. i enjoy reading some of my favorite VAs tweets and them responding sometimes.

Also on reddit, i’ve reported someone for bullying to reddit and the mods in the subreddit since he was clearly going out of his way to be toxic to my friend. and reddit still has never gotten back to me as well as about the inactive mods and the only active mod there didn’t want to act because both of the people were considered valuable to the community.
I like reddit for certain subreddits. For the most part, good communities can get by with minimal mod involvement because the most toxic content will be downvoted to oblivion before you even get there. The main downside though is the idiots who stalk you around multiple subreddits because you hurt their fee fees somewhere else. But in general I prefer reading to pictures and videos and memes and reddit provides more long-form content and discussion than other social medias.
