Now this was purely speculation for fun between my best friend and I the other day on a possible use for Nook Miles.
To anyone who has or hasn't played Rune Factory 4, the game has a system called "Prince Points" or "Princess Points" depending on which character you play as. You gain these points by completing quests and selling crops or other items. And with them, you can "purchase" various things (unlock specific festivals, gain a bigger farm, upgrade your house, etc.) As long as you have enough materials.
Now, what have we seen in acnh? A points system (Nook Miles) and resources. (The same resources, might I add, lumber, stone and plants). Thus, our hypothetical system would be pretty similar. If you have enough points and materials, maybe that's how you unlock the museum or other shops? You have to "buy" them without actually using bells. Could also be used for festivals and holidays too, instead of just having everything right off the bat.
Now this is all just for fun and we are probably entirely wrong, but we thought it was fitting, and kind of fits into the whole "deserted island" aesthetic of us having to create everything from the ground up. Let me know what you all think!
