Thoughts on home requirements when villager moves in?

One of the most jarring things to me when I was starting out was how quickly the concept of needing to prepare a home for a new villager (or islander, w/e) disappeared.

When the first 3 move in we have to gather materials and craft furniture for them prior to them moving in. At the time I thought this was the norm from then on - the plot you reserve would have the extra space in it four exterior furniture and whenever someone was moving into the plot we'd have to get stuff ready for them. After these three, though, it was super quickly discarded though and we went back to reserving small plots of land and they would just...move in?

To me, it's a huge missed opportunity - they had the feature there already and just got rid of it for an easier "just plop down a plot where they'll live" - I thought preparing the house added more to the experience and gave us something to use our gathering/crafting on before a villager moved in, and was a good way to unlock new DIY recipes that were introduced through a new villager moving in.

What do you think?

Maybe it doesn't make sense in the lore aspect, but from a gameplay perspective it allows players to get more comfortable with the crafting system. I'm guessing that's what it has to deal with.

honestly considering that these first 3 also had default houses for their personalities i don't mind it being gone, i mean imagine trying to find the unique furniture that is in each villagers house past that point i think it woulda been a pain! maybe if the default personality houses weren't a thing i wouldn't mind it though

Bearing in mind we unlocked the DIY recipes required for each villager when those 3 moved in - so I'm going off the assumption the same would happen with subsequent villagers.

i feel like if we had more furniture (in general) to craft, and if the villager gave us missing recipes, i'd actually really like the concept of them asking for some things before they move in. it'd be difficult to do with an island villager; how would u be able to get back to them with the furniture since they leave when u leave? but i guess the amiibo campsite villagers already kind of require us to do that which is cool. i kinda like having to spawn them in at least 3 times and craft their items, but i feel like that's an unpopular opinion.

It's a cool concept but I just really dislike how the villagers you have to craft for at the start end up with boring default furniture that's set for their personality and (at least for me who's TTed a ton) never change it to what they'd normally have if you had gotten them later. I also find that aspect of it just plain odd tbh because you also have to craft 3 things for any camper you invite via amiibo and they still come with their unique houses... Maybe if each villager would soon change to the furniture they should actually have, or the generic default furniture just didn't exist, I wouldn't mind it though! Or maybe if it was just that you had to craft exterior stuff to prepare a nice yard for them.

It made sense for plot progression during that part of the game because Tom Nook wasn't exactly financially secured yet (in regards to furnishings and home building) and had outright promised those 3 particular villagers that he'd give them a fully furnished home by impulse. There wasn't any way he would have been able to do it by himself.

While I do agree that it was an interesting concept, it would have probably made certain villagers impossible to get/move in unless you're in the right season to be able to obtain the proper resources and craft their unique furniture (ie. Roald and his cool, pun intended, ice furniture/arctic themed home). I certainly wouldn't like the idea of being stuck with a pending/sold plot for almost an entire year.

It is jarring. I just wish there was an option to bring materials to Tom Nook to get the house plot or plot for a bridge. like there was in the beginning. It made it feel more involved and required more set-up. That being said, I could see people complaining endlessly if that was an option (because ti would rely on crafting/gathering) and I do like not feeling pressured to customize their yards with specific things.
