So, as many of you may know, there is a category 3-4 hurricane, of very high danger hitting florida, haiti, cuba, and several other places.. i am in zone for this, and to be quite honest, am genuinely worried for me and my family's safety. we live in an old-ish wood home and.. just.. im scared. what are your opinions, and if its affecting you, what will you do to prepare?:(

I don't think it'll effect me. My main concern is the animals. A lot of animals will probably suffer. Not that the people won't, but I'm sure most people can find decent shelter, and a lot of animals will probably have a hard time doing so...

Sorry, I totally got lost in my thoughts though. I wish you the best, and your family. Perhaps id your home isn't safe, you can find somewhere else. Another family member, or some friend for you family to bunk with.

If finding another location isn't safe, maybe you have a basement/cellar, or if you sleep above the ground floor, I would move to the lowest possible floor. At least if there's flooding you'll have more time to react. I dunno if this works for hurricanes, but a good tip for surviving a tornado is to lie in a bathtub, and cover up with something, preferably a mattress. Can't recall where I heard this.

this won't affect where I am, but my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!

I can't imagine how afraid you are but I know you'll be just fine. remain positive and keep your faith.

bring your cats in tomorrow, or earlier if possible, and just keep safe and like @bone baby said, maybe bunk in with some friends or other family members elsewhere until this passes!

thank you for your prayers <3

I'm calculating a 99% chance that it will be wet. Bring an umbrella.

(But seriously don't worry, hunker down and it'll be over in no time.)

yeah hurricanes are no joke.... my family is in NC and VA, they will probably get something but nothing compared to the OP listed places. Good luck, I'm hoping the best for you and your family!

We had our family vacation at the Outer Banks a week ago, so glad it wasn't this week. However, I live in Indiana and know its not affecting me.

I'm not going to be affected by it much (I live on Long Island) but hurricanes suck, I hope you'll be okay and be sure to stock up on supplies before the storm hits! Lots of water, non perishable food and a working flashlight with extra batteries are essential, and make sure all your phones are charged in case of an emergency. And make sure the cats are safe.

thanks everyone for your kind words. i pray (or if thats not your fancy- hope) that everything will be okay.

i'm really sorry to hear that,, stay as low in your house or someone else's house as you can and make sure flooding shouldn't be a problem . also try to keep your windows blocked and double check that you have all the supplies that you need. stay positive and please be careful!

Bellrich, not sure what oart of the state you are in, but most cities have storm shelters made open to the public that are in buildings constructed under the post-hurricane andrew building codes, so they're super safe, sometimes they are school gymnasiums and people bring their sleeping bags (but pets may not be allowed in some of them). or maybe your family could check into a hotel, this is a fast-moving hurricane, so one night's stay should be all that would be necessary. hopefully this storm will veer off to the east...

I'm so sorry. I hope everything will be okay for you :-( on the news they are telling people how to be prepared for this and some areas might have people evacuate. I'm very concerned bc my bff is in florida rn for her bday and it's suppose to hit the area she is in.

I'm not going to be affected by this, quite lucky with where I am in the world and I'm always so grateful for that. I can't imagine the worry you and your family are going through right now. I don't have much practical advice other than to stock up on food and water. Is there no basements or anything in the house? I guess your worry is also about your home being badly damaged :( can't imagine...
Best wishes to you and your family

I know it won't affect me in the slightest and I've never been in a hurricane because of where I live so I don't have any really good advise. I do know how terrible it's been to the Caribbean so once it reaches you I hope you, your whole family (pets included), and anyone else this is gonna effect are fine.

Hey there. I am in NC, and they are already predicting it may be bad for us as well and are preparing evacuation routes if necessary. My best advice would be to make sure you have plenty of food and water so you don't need to go out, and hunker down to wait it out. If it seems like the winds are getting dangerous just make sure you move away from any windows in case they break. I don't think you will have to worry about your windows and I think your roof will be fine as well. Try not to worry too much! Stay safe! ^-^

thanks to everyone, your words mean a lot. my dad is getting shutters today (from what ive heard) if he doesnt idk what to think of him anymore.. lol
but yeah.

The hurricane doesn't reach me but it sounds very frightening, especially for those who are in range. Best wishes and stay safe! <3
