Personally I'm kinda peeved by the fact that they aren't ingrained into the base game. Holidays are a such a staple to AC that it seems weird having them locked behind a download. I know that once they're downloaded they're most likely there to stay, but so far, given the information, it just seems unnecessary? I don't have any problem with getting internet access but what about the people that do? Are they stuck holiday-less? Or are the basic parts of a holiday still in the base game, but there'll be special live(ish)-updates for people for a certain amount of time? iunno!

What's your thoughts and predictions on this? I'm genuinely wanting to hear more opinions!

how i feel about it sort of depends on why they are dlc. if they had to make holidays and the absent npcs update content in order to meet the already delayed release date then thats fine. maybe holidays will be more unique every year and they're using updates to do that, i would just hope there's a 'base' version of the holiday for when the game stops getting updates. but if the holidays were held back just to stop time travellers then that would be a bit petty.

I feel the way you do.
They have always been in the game.

It feels a little incomplete having the holidays as an ongoing DLC.

I feel like they made the holidays DLC for the fact that they want to avoid much spoilers due to time travelers. It's a simple way to do it. Plus having the holidays be DLC let's them change it up all the time. You probably wont have the exact same prizes, or the exact same experiences. That's just my speculation. It seems plausible only because it seems to be just the main holidays that have this DLC confirmed.

April Fools, Valentine's, NY Day, they all didn't have a mention.

I know it's different, but I think that it'll make the holiday experience much more enjoyable. Nintendo is basically giving us more content on the holidays as the years go by! Y'know how in new leaf the holidays are always the same every year? It will give us a new and diverse experience with new items or events. I think that nintendo knows their game, and made this choice for a reason. In the end, I think it'll have a positive impact on the experience we have and I can't wait to see what they bring to the table! Also, i'm sure the updates will be small and shouldn't take up a great amount of time. I think this minor inconvenience will definately be worth it!

I think it’ll feel more special and in the spirit of community to know that everyone is experiencing it for the first time together ^^

It sucks for time-travelers who would’ve been decent and not spoiled anything—or enriched themselves by selling the special items—but I’m kind of glad to not have to worry as much about the ones who aren’t that considerate.

I'm actually not sure how I feel about it. It's really odd to not have holidays in the main game and have them be dlc, but at the same time I can understand why they are for a couple reasons. Maybe it's cause they don't want people time traveling somehow if anyone finds a way to and spoiling things?

I'm thinking it's mainly for those who don't celebrate certain holidays? If they don't celebrate a certain holiday they just don't have to download that dlc. It's a complicated way to go about it, but that's what I think the reason may be.

I keep listening to it, it as it has been making no sense to me

"By installing this update, you can celebrate bunny day with a special event in April"
It seems base game holidays are there, (like Easter for example) but they are adding something along side with it and we could have just been interpreting it wrong this entire time

I could be wrong though...

I don't really worry. We don't know everything about it for the moment. So I will chill and wait. The game looks amazing and I am sure everything will feel normal :) Online-Updates are so common in these days - most companies go down this route and I adapted to this a long time ago already.

It will also pretend TT to a certain degree :) We will get less spoilers for holidays.

It sucks for people with no internet connection. Here are some younger kids and I don't know if it's so easy for everyone to get a steady inet connection.

I like the idea that holidays might change every year (not completely, but I'm sure they'll add something new each time) and spoilers will be avoided completely thanks to DLCs.

Hi

I like the idea. Getting a game at launch that is never updated with new stuff has a shelf life (at least with me). I grew up playing virtual worlds on the PC like Club Penguin where the developers would roll out new events every year for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and various other fairs and festivals. The events would have unique items, treasure hunts and limited edition gifts. I think this is a way things can be kept interesting and also the developers can listen to what we want and potentially provide updates. I know some people are sceptical but I think we trust the developers on this one as they haven’t let us down with the rest of the game. I think this has the potential to be a really good thing.

It does seem a little dicey....but at the same time I find it hard to believe that they left them out because they didn't have time. (I mean the game was delayed)

I'm assuming the reason they're doing this is (at least for the first year) to have more control over the flow of events.

Either holidays will be different each year....or they'll add to the holidays incrementally each year. I hope it's the latter to be honest, I'd rather the events were in our games for good after the update and they just added upon it in later years.

I do like the idea of them having the ability to introduce new holidays entirely for the second or third year. I hope that's something they do.

Ooo so each year, the holiday will get different and we'll have a different prize etc... I love that!!! And you would be pleasantly surprised for reals |艸`)うぷぷw

I won't know how I feel about it until I know exactly what they are doing with it. I don't play AC for the holidays, they are nice but after doing them once I generally never bother to do them again anyway.

Since it seems they may be putting our seasonal events in through updates, this means we get to look forward to a new event every year. For example, we won't get the same Christmas event every year.

Nintendo didn't do this for time travel reasons. The Switch makes it easy for Nintendo to push updates unlike past consoles. They're using this ability to give us new seasonal content.

If Nintendo doesn't remove the holiday events with an update as soon as the event ends, it's possible that last introduced events will stick around forever after the game support dies (unless you lose your update data).

By the time support for New Horizons ends, we will likely be already playing the newest Animal Crossing game.

I think they meant celebrating the actual "bunny day" "in real life" with an event in game.

it doesn't bother me since i never time travel anyway. maybe it makes sense to them from a marketing standpoint, getting to advertise all these free updates makes them sound good. even though they were base game content previously

It's kinda odd, but at least it leaves room for improvements down the line.

i?m not really fond of the idea as i liked it more that they were already in the game; the idea of it being different every year is kind of exciting, however

I actually think it's a great idea for reasons that have been mentioned already(different holidays each year, no spoilers from time travellers...), but I hope that once Nintendo stops supporting NH they'll leave some versions of the holidays into the game so we can still play the holidays after that.

I think its good for various reasons. Firstly, releasing holidays the week prior to the real life equivalent means players cannot 'time travel' to get special items early. It also gives you a reason to play Animal Crossing closer to the holidays. You'll boot up your Nintendo Switch, and Animal Crossing will have an update for a holiday and it might motivate you to play it.

Having Holidays as updates may also give them freedom with changing the content each year as well.
