Thoughts on the immigration ban in the US?

I think I've heard about an elderly lady that needed medical attention who died shortly after she was denied permission to enter the US... does anyone know if this is true? Because if it is, this is officially the first person who was straight-up murdered by Trump's presidency... despite ppl saying that people of colour were exagerrating when they feared for their lives...

Nah the family that said that lied. The old lady died before the ban was announced.

i have a lot to say
i don't like the ban, HOWEVER i hate how the media portrays it...obviously. saying that it's a muslim ban and it's because of muslims trump hates muslims wah waah
i saw a sign that said "QUEERS FOR REGUGEES" excuse me how dare you think it's acceptable to bring an entirely different topic that should be in other protests towards something as serious as this. it's fine if you're gay no need to shove it in my face lgbt has nothing to do with this matter. even though people may argue that trump is homophobic this issue still has nothing to do with it.
people like mo farah are banned. a guy, like many people who have been banned, obviously has done nothing wrong and has achieved great things. imagine if trump said, "yeah he can come in he's a sir" that would be terrible
at least it's half the time of what obama did. obama banned people like this for 6 months.
if people are arguing that it will stop terrorism, afghanistan has not been banned and that's like got the most powerful base for al qaeda

On one hand, I feel irritated that a country built on forced colonization (read as, "invasion") is suddenly super protective of the land. That, and we did something similar to refugees and immigrants in the 40's, and... Well, we teach about genocide in school as though it's exactly the terrible thing that it is, but it sort of glosses over the part where we could have helped a lot.

Unfortunately, on the other hand, I do agree there need to be limits, but treating every immigrant like a terrorist and turning people away just because of where they come from is very much not the way to go about it.

We're a melting pot. We boast diversity. We're the land of the free. We're a country BUILT on letting people in to the new world to make a name for themselves, a life for their kids and their family. This just doesn't feel right.

I think it's awful and I don't even see the point of it. My mom loves it and says it's the only option we have now, but I wholeheartedly disagree.

Unfortunately, many people like your mom have this irrational view of America where terrorists are killing people left and right, inner cities are war zones, and we're becoming a third world country economically. However, if you actually get out into the real world instead of spending most of your day in front of your TV or computer, you come to realize the United States is still a great country, perhaps better than ever even with all of its problems. I live near a community with a lot of Muslims and refugees and there has never been a terrorist attack anywhere close to where I live.

I think this irrational view cuts both ways though. The United States isn't going to be a post-apocalyptic piece of rubble because of Trump. A majority of Americans voted against him, so he can sign as many executive orders as he wants, but he's not going to get very far with the lack of manpower backing him. People just want to say things are hopeless because it gives them an excuse to be lazy. After all, if you believe Trump is all-powerful, then there's nothing you can do about it so you don't have to get your ass off the couch to try to stop him. Trump's election could actually be a good thing if people use it as a learning experience to take the time to learn how the U.S. political system actually works and understand the importance of voting in every single election including primaries, midterms, and odd-year elections and getting to know every candidate on the ballot from top to bottom. Maybe now people will learn that elections actually do have consequences and real-life implications and stop saying stupid stuff like "they're all the same", "they're all bad", "they all suck", and "it doesn't matter". People these days love to be the victim and just mope and whine about crap and say we're doomed. Conservatives said that about Obama and now liberals are saying that about Trump. The immigration ban will have tragic consequences, but so does a lot of other stuff that happens every day that people don't care about. The next president can double immigration to make up for Trump, but that's only if the next president isn't Trump.

I think it's genuinely sad and I'm glad my University is offering support to those affected most by this ban.

Immigrants are important because they're willing to do jobs that no Americans want to do, like being Donald Trump's wife.

It's going to do nothing but split the world against the USA, especially with other countries like Canada and Israel taking them in/housing them.

It's just stupid but more importantly, dangerous.
