they're fine. every generation has its stinkers but IMO there's never been a full generation of new pokemon that have been really "wow!" or "ew!" to me. i do think the designs are cute but some are a bit silly. as much as i adore wiglett for its absurdity, it's just that. absurd.
I like most of them, there aren't really any that I dislike like some of the previous generations but I'd like bellibolt more if the fake eyes on it's head were actually eyes I think. I'm for sure choosing sprigatito as my starter but I'm not sure what I'm going to put on my team besides that yet.
This is what I think about every officially revealed Gen 9 Pokémon so far.
Fuecoco - first impressions were neutral but over time I grew really fond of his derpy expression and dino design. We haven't had a dinosaur starter since Chikorita (and I do understand Fuecoco is a croc, but what are crocs but living fossils?) Also, I would really love for his final form to be ferocious. Guys like Typhlosion, Emboar and Incineroar look like they'd wreck your **** up if you so much as look at them funny, but Cinderace? He want to be your best buddy uwu!! Please no.
Quaxly - it's fine, honestly. It made me remember Ducklett so there's that lol
Sprigatito - I really like its name, first impression was immediately "yay kitty!" but now..... it's meh. I normally gravitate towards grass starters, but not so much this time, unless its final form is dressed for success. What do Venusaur, Meganuim and Torterra all have in common? Quadruped grass starters from beginning to end. Will we have another one in Sprigatito? Only time will tell, but with the direction of starter designs nowadays, I wouldn't bet on it.
Koraidon - it looks really damn good.
Miraidon - it's not as cool as Koraidon imo
Cyclizar- I don't know, a bit too basic in design, but it's modern era so I guess that's fine. I wouldn't be surprised if its signature move Shed Tail is busted in the meta game lol
Lechonk - I want him for breakfast, lunch AND dinner!
Pawmi - it's adorable! I get the urge to draw it every time I think about it.
Smoliv - pretty basic, in the same group as food mons such as Cherubi and Bounsweet. I think it's fine.
Paldean Wooper - I already loved Wooper but now it's soaked to the bone in poison, one of my favorite types, and I love it!
Fidough - it's pretty cute! Someone in GF must have said to their coworker, "my dog's a purebred" and then thought, "pureBREAD" and now we have Fidough.
Cetitan - I really, really like it. It looks like an actual MONSTER, something akin to traditional monster designs from past generations such as Aggron, Tyranitar, Nidoking and Gigalith. That rugged body, rough edges and gaping maw... It would be terrifying seeing one running toward you.
Klawf - I really like it! It's so derpy, and looks like a robot. It's the mouth and eyes, honestly. Also I love how we get another crab Pokémon and some people are like, "meh they be running out of ideas" but we get another dog Pokémon and people are like "Game Freak are geniuses omg uwu!!"
Grafaifai - other than that disproportionate head and bug-like eyes, I think it's fine. I like its typing, though, it makes it neutral to Fighting-type attacks.
Bellibolt - it's a happy hoppy derpy tubby frog and that's enough for me to really like it!
Farigiraf - Gen 8 gave Stantler and Teddiursa some love, and now it's Girafarig's turn in Gen 9. Overall a solid design.
Armorouge - it's fine, nothing really remarkable but nothing too horrible. Design as a whole doesn't have as much detail as it should to make it look as good as its counterpart Ceruledge.
Ceruledge - great design overall.
Wiglett - because Game Freak thought we didn't have enough "lett" Pokémon lol but in all seriousness, the idea of convergent evolution just adds more lore to the world of Pokémon and I'm all for it.
Greavard - it was love at first "bite" it's so cute I died lol
