hii im really nervous for school im a sophomore in high school and this will be the first time in a while going in person full time i need tips such as friends or work after school and grades i start september 9th

Did you used to do homeschool or online school? It’s a lot different than public school. I actually had the decision to do public schooling or do my high school years in a cyber school. I chose public schooling, but I regretted it after a few months in. I’m graduated now, so it doesn’t really matter, but you definitely experience more in a public school setting.

Don’t stress out is my number one tip. Don’t feel like you have to get perfect grades or go to college — unless of course that’s your thing. If you’re not feeling like college is what’s best for you, don’t let the school or guidance counselors tell you otherwise. There are plenty of careers or high paying jobs you can do without a college degree. Don’t play their game if you’re not feeling it.

Also, the friends you make in high school likely will not last outside of high school. I hate to bring negativity into this, but this is the truth. You become friends with people in high school, but once you leave high school, you no longer have that one major thing in common. I call them “situational friendships.” After high school, you all will be on different paths. It’s the same with work. It’s great to be cordial with people at work, but there is a difference between being friendly and being friends. You can be nice at work, but never get to a level of friendship. Friendships at work will likely end badly. This isn’t always the case, but it’s definitely the case more often than not.

Good luck starting school. Don’t be nervous, and don’t try to fit in. Just be yourself and the right people will gravitate towards you. You’ll attract all kinds of wrong attention if you put on a fake persona or pretend to be someone you aren’t.

thanks so much and yes i do go to a public school my first one ever when i was a freshmen i did online school because of the pandemic and halfway towards the end i did hybrid which is 2 days at home 3 days at school and its a lot different then my middle school

Hey, congrats on sophomorizing! Are any of your middle school friends also at the same high school? I found it to be easier to meet new people when I had my support network sorted out.

hi i dont have any advice but i just wanted to say im in the same situation as you but i start waaayy earlier on the 30th.

It's extremely hard to put yourself out there but talk to as many people as you can. Just a friendly hi even. The right people will be interested in talking to you. Don't shy yourself away in the corner.

I'm a junior in high school and I'm not the best in the friends department, but I'd say the best way to meet people is to just talk to who you sit next to in your classes. Most of my friends I met in middle school and earlier but the ones I met in high school were mainly from having assigned seats or group projects. Sports and clubs are usually a good way to meet people too as it basically guarantees you have something in common already. The most important thing I learned in high school (so far) is to just be yourself, don't let others influence what you like, what you wear, etc. Do what you want and what makes you happy.

As someone that had transferred school districts at the end of eighth grade and started a new public school in ninth grade, I remember being super scared. I’ve gone through high school without any friends really. All of my friends were met online. I couldn’t vibe with anyone in school. The first day will be daunting. It will be scary, but you’ll get through it.
