To what extent will NH take crafting?

Crafting is probably one of the most controversial additions to AC. At first I was kind of on the fence about it, but now I?m fully on board, strangely enough for the same reasons I was hesitant about it at first.

The following is just speculation, we still know very little about the game, even though it releases next month.
For now; furniture, wallpaper/flooring, tools, accessories, bags, and possibly edibles are all the items that have been confirmed for crafting; based on the crafting tabs on the Nookphone app.

But what if crafting recipes go beyond the options on the app. For example, when building attractions on your island, like a bridge; would we just pay the construction fee like we would in NL, or would you need to gather a large amount of hardwood, iron, stone, etc, in order to start construction? What about something like The Roost or police station? Would we need to save up a bunch of materials to have them built?

The fact that there are bags we can equip that are tailored to gathering, kind of gives credence to that idea. Such as the back pack carried in one if the images released, its sole purpose seems to be for wood gathering. Perhaps we can lay out plank-style paths, and equipping this bag will allow us to lay out more paths at a time, without taking over precious inventory space.

Also, check out the trowel used to lay out the paths. What if we need to gather a ton of clay in order to lay out the clay path, a bag dedicated to collecting ore would make it a lot easier.

How far do you think crafting will go? Do you prefer it to be more of a hobby? Would you mind if it is a more vital part in developing your island?

I wouldn't mind gathering all the items needed to build bridges and things like that, maybe the animals could assist with contributions? As there hasn't been any mention (that I know of) of you yourself being the head honcho minus saying if you agree to where animals place there houses or not, I think aside from donating bells to these things the animals should contribute supplies towards buldings too.

Yeah, hopefully villagers are a bit more generous this time around, lol. There have been images of villagers holding materials, maybe they can donate them to projects around the island. I like that.

A minimal extent I'm hoping. You know, crafting the very basic items in the game is OK, but I'm hoping the more rare items are reserved for acquiring through more traditional means. Just my opinion.

When they first announced crafting I thought it looked pretty cool. Any twist they put on it will be good or neutral to me, the idea sounds exciting and I'm excited to craft for hours and hours!

Unfortunately I think we will have to craft everything. All the furniture sets and items that were once PWP's, like PC.

I think that you'll be able to buy furnature/clothing items etc normally but if you want to customise them, you'll have to craft the exact look you want. ie, sloppy bed but with different coloured legs craft, different couuld pillow, mattress and duvet craft. ☆

Sloppy? WOW, seems like there is a hundred furniture sets I've not heard of since City Folk. Do boring old Blue and Green still exist lol

Yep!

Sloppy was in NL.

It would randomly show up in Re-Tail and some villagers had sloppy furniture.

The sloppy stereo looked ok. :)

personally im excited for the crafting feature. i feel like with crafting you'll be able to craft most basic items, but more expensive/complex items (like gracie grace furniture & fashion) will probably still only be purchasable. they have said that crafting will be optional, but i feel like in the beginning of the game it will kinda be mandatory if you dont wanna use bells.

Yeah, thats how I feel about it too. I'm really excited about it but also I feel like it will be optional in most cases.

I hope they take it as far as they can. It is a new feature -- they should make as much use of it as possible. As long as it isn't extremely time consuming, or extremely time-gated, I am completely fine if they make a ton of use of this feature.

Granted, I absolutely enjoy material grinding (coughmonsterhunterfanherecough), so this opinion is quite biased.

I don't like the sound of it, but I'm willing to give it a chance. :3

there's always some new mechanic added to or built upon in the next edition of animal crossing. i like the idea of crafting, especially since it's optional. hopefully it's done in a way that makes building things rewarding and worthwhile.

We have to craft the plane, the pilot, and Rover, and the jetty/dock. :D
