I’ve been planning on naming my town CocoBean for ages, because it just sounded cute.

For a while I’ve been reading this book called The Story of the Stone, an ancient Chinese historical epic novel written about several generations of a family. Gorgeous prose in the Hawkes translation, epic story lines, some good fantasy and mythical elements… just a great book, It’s a slog, I admit, because there are dozens and dozens of characters, but it’s so good.

But last night, as I was reading The Story of the Stone, I thought Inkstone would be a much cooler town name. Red Inkstone was one of the manuscript’s original commentators and his insights added a lot of historical depth and information about the author, Cao Xueqin. A mythical stone is, obviously, also the centerpiece of the story.

This community project would fairly closely mimic the actual Stone in the story, so it would give my town a more meaningful theme.

Picture is from this Tumblr, it is not my own.

But, this is all dependent on getting that community project unlocked. I could place a signboard in the spot I want it in until it unlocks, I guess.

So, now I don’t know. CocoBean or Inkstone? Now I’m leaning towards Inkstone, but I don’t want to make a rash choice either.

Inkstone sounds really poetic and like it properly encaptions a scenic little town. And CocoBean sounds kooky and quirky like the game and villagers are.
So congratulations on finding two very fine names. :) I think I'm with you on leaning toward Inkstone, but something about CocoBean just works too.

If you plan on resetting to find your perfect town layout / fruit / whatever maybe alternate inputting the two names, so it's random?

I think I'm gonna go with Inkstone. CocoBean is cutesy and all, but... I'm old, lol. Maybe it's time to not be so cutesy anymore. But if I never get that project unlocked it's kind of a waste. A gamble I'll have to take! Thanks for your input. :D
