I used to love fishing in Animal Crossing. I paid off my houses doing nothing but fishing in the older games, and when I began playing New Leaf, I was planning of fishing to pay of my house again.

But the fishing is New Leaf is different than in the old games, or maybe I've just gotten bad at it lol. Now when the bobber is in front of the fish, he'll start touching it, but then he'll swim away!
Also, when the fish bites and creates a splash, when I try to reel it in, it gets away! Even if I press the A button as soon as the fish bites, it doesn't work. Out of 10 fish I just tried to catch, I was only able to catch 3.

Has anyone else noticed this, or had the some problem as me while trying to fish?

I have had the problem of fish biting the bobber and then deciding to swim off, but in usually never have trouble catching the fish. Only sharks give me that trouble... ;x;

Maybe you just need practice? The only reason I can think of why this is happening is because you might be trying to press A before the bobber completely sinks. You have let it sink first before quickly pressing A.
Sorry I'm not much help! :(

Ive seen this a few times. The fish just touches it, and then it swims off and you're left there like whaaaat!? Even still, i still can't get past pressing A too early before the fish has ACTUALLY taken the bobber. Oops.

Just go by the sound, its easier, not just with sharks. I used to get so excited when sharkfishing I was way to early, so then I just looked away and followed my ears.

I think this makes sharks way easier to get, but that's just me.

I never caught one single shark until I started listening with my eyes closed. And I found it works way better for me that way with all the fish in nl. Because the timing is just so different than in the other games. Now I like fishing again. And I can even keep my eyes open now. - as long as I don't look at the fish!

I too fish by sound. I cast my line out and wait for the fish to come towards the bobber. I then close my eyes and wait for the sound of the bobber going down. Rarely do I ever miss catching the fish. Usually only happens if they bite down on the 1st or 2nd hit. But 3rd hit or after, I'm golden.

I always fish by sound. It works really well. I hardly ever miss a fish this way. I recommend it highly.

I'm totally in love with fishin' in AC:NL. ovo
Doing the "closed eyes-trick", too. It works perfectly fine with sharks. Don't need it for the normal ones.
Does the fishes that left you behind disappear? Because mine are re-catchable. :O

Maybe it's just me, but I have noticed as the weather cools off they can't seem to make up their mind which way they want to go. I never had that problem in warmer months. If it's a rare or HTF they will be harder to catch.
