This is kind of a pointless thread, since obviously the answer is nobody knows, but I have spent too much time thinking about it for whatever reason. When do you think we'll get an update that's big enough to take us from 1.X to 2.0? Changing the first number in a version number is always reserved for huge content updates in games... I'm really eager to see something like that.

What do you think would be in an update that takes us to 2.0?

My biggest want from something like that would just be huge furniture additions. Add a couple hundred items 😂 it'd also be a good time for some of the requested QoL updates.

Okay, so far most significant updates happen when there are upcoming holidays.

1.1 Bunny Day (Bunny Day)
1.2 Earth Day (Leif, Redd, Rover, Wedding Season)
1.3 Summer Wave 1 (Pascal, Gullivarrr, Diving)
1.4 Summer Wave 2 (Fireworks, Luna, Dream Islands)

Here's my speculation on future updates...

1.5 Fall Wave 1, this October (Halloween, Jack)
1.6 Fall Wave 2, this November (Harvest Festival, Franklin)

The rumored cooking and farming mechanics will probably be part of the Fall DLC.

1.7 Winter, this December (Toy Day, Jingle)
1.8 January 2021 (Something...)
1.9 February 2021 (Festivale & Pave)

Brewster, Gyroids, Shrunk, Katarina, Gracie, Harriet will probably be part of the above. Not really sure what they can put on January, but it can be anything. It can be Tortimer Island or something.

2.0 March 2021 (1st Anniversary, Mario stuff and others)

Probably new villagers, return of missing furniture, extensive customization on items and buildings (Retail & HHA), and the crossovers. I would love to have an island town we can visit that has all the shops of NPCs that visit us. Would be nice to have a villa we can purchase there too.

I hope we get the robot cat & dog back ; w ;

You mean Bow and Meow?

Very unlikely, those were to promote the Meowlingual and Bowlingual. Something tells me Nintendo just doesn't have the rights to use those concepts again.

im gonna cry

Same goes with either the Nintendo/Sanrio villagers (unless they drum up a new deal) and some of the e+ villagers like Shinkouchi and Nindori.

Anyways, for 2.0.0, feel like that's when we'll see shop upgrades and more furniture come in. Anniversary of our island, what better way to celebrate then for Tom Nook to upgrade it.

Why would Harriet come back though? We can do our hair whenever we want.

There is no guarantee that we will ever see a 2.0. This game gets improvements, but they will always be based on the original game, the version 1. An "Animal Crossing New Horizons 2" should be more like a sequel, and I don't think that that sequel is going to have that title (same as this game not being New Leaf 2, which is still making some people very upset).

I think that, if we get enough updates, we will go from 1.9.0 to 1.10.0, then 1.11.0 and you get the point. This is how most games with a version system handle it!

I mean, this game is made by the Splatoon 2 team, and that game went to 5.3 without getting a sequel, let alone 4 sequels. The updates that changed the first number were just larger than most. You're right that there's no guarantee, but I think the reasoning is a little flawed :)

Agreed. There isn't any actual requirements for software versioning. Most use it to show some dramatic difference, but it doesn't necessarily have to be. They will sometimes do it even for marketing reasons alone.

Honestly, they could choose to jump to 2.x next year because of it being the second calendar year that they are supporting the game. You never know.

Ah, I never played that game. That's a very interesting version system - definitely not the most commonly used one.

It is still true that it is entirely up to them though. If they want their next bug fix patch to be version 3.0 then so it shall be :)

I Got a Idea. How About a Crossover where we can take a Plane back to New leaf Town. If we update a Dream in New leaf and dream a New leaf Town in New Horzon and be able to shop in our old Town shops and so on.
