I’ll start by saying that I know some people enjoy hopping tons of islands, and I’ll also add that I’m well aware that Nintendo tries to push the online subscription in any possible way(and amiibos), but can we talk about how flawed is going on hunts?
I’ve reset my island a couple of days ago and I was looking for the first 3 villagers; I wasn’t fussy because I don’t like that those villagers won’t have their actual interior houses but still, I wanted to find villagers i at least liked a little because I’ve no intention of time travelling and it might take a while to boot the out. While hunting throughout two different days I was able to find only cows, elephants, rhinos, mice and gorillas. Tons of repeats as well on something like 10 tickets.
The way island hopping works is so frustrating and it takes away even the slightest fun. I really think it should be fixed somehow, because you might never encounter a cat or a bunny if it keeps working like it is now.

I do have the same experience when I search for a new villager on islands. I was primarily encountering cows, chickens, and rhinos.

I am also like you in that I never search for one specific villager, I'm just looking for any that interests me, so it can be discouraging to constantly be encountering species I'm not interested in. (Even more so when I encounter duplicate villagers in under 10 tickets).

I did eventually find Poppy the squirrel who i thought was cute so I invited her back to my island. All I can say is dont give up and the game does eventually give you some other varieties of animals. I'm sending you luck!
