So, yeah, I couldn’t think of a better title. I pronounced Ankha similar to the word ankle. I also pronounced Pekoe as Pee-Ko. I don’t know if the latter is correct, but I never talk about Pekoe so I’m assuming we’re all good there, lol. I’ve heard other people pronounce her name differently.

Are there any villagers you know you’re pronouncing wrong or used to pronounce wrong? I also understand the correct way to pronounce Ankha now, it just went over my head before.

There's a few villagers I'm unsure of how to pronounce the names of.
Anicotti ("ah-ni-caught-ee"?)
Bea (either like"Bay" or "Bee")
Deirdre ("deer-dree" or "deer-dray")
Jambette ("Jam-bet" or jsham-bet)
Pancetti ("pan-che-ti" or "pan-ceh-ti")
Tiansheing ("tyan-shang"?)

Also I say "pee-ko" but I've also heard "pee-ko-ay"

I didn't know how to pronounce Pekoe when I first saw her name. The only Asian language I knew at all was Japanese, so I just went with how I thought they would pronounce it: Peh-ko-eh.

Apparently it is supposed to be pronounced Pee-ko(?), but I've been pronouncing it wrong for so long it's hard to change now.

@Firesquids I think Deirdre is supposed to be pronounced as Deer-drah. I knew a girl named Deirdre in high school and that's how she pronounced it.

Tangy.

I always call her Tan-gee
I was told it is : Tang-ee but that is quite ugly sounding. So I still call her Tan-gee.

For Jambette, here is how you pronounce it (click on the player in the middle of the page) : jambette

i don't understand how to pronounce etoile. is it eh-toh-elle?
also, this is embarrassing, but when i first saw the name "Eloise" i said e-loyse.

i don't know for sure, but based on my limited memory of french, i've always pronounced it "eh-twahll". google translate could probably help you with that one though.

I always think of Ursala as "Ursula". I still don't know if Cheri is "sherry", "cherry", or "sher-ee".

i always used to say roald as ronald until somebody pointed out that there was no n in his name but ronald just sounds better.

I dont know if most of these are right or wrong but the only TRUE pronunciations are from like AC directs soo...

Roald: Sometimes I say ro-ald and sometimes I say "rolled"
Bea: Is it "bee" or beya?
Eloise: I know for a fact its Elo-eese but I still say el-oise
Etoile: I say "Eh-twa" because I think thats star in french?? BUT LIKE EVERYONE SAYS HER NAMED DIFFERENT? ONE OF MY FRIENDS CALLED HER ELLIOT ✋😭
Cyrano: Sigh-rano? or See-reh-no?
Tangy: Tan-gy or Tang-e?
Pekoe: Peek-o or Pe-ko-eh
Beau: Is it bea-u or Bow or b-aw?
Portia: Is it port-ia or Por-shia?
Blanche: Blan-ch or Blan-chey?

These are just a few..... I wish spelling and reading was easier!!!!!!

I have quite a history of mispronuncing names, but I also feel that I pronounce AC villager names properly for the most part. There are exceptions, I don't think that "sir-aw-no" (Cyrano) is correct, because I see that a lot of other people pronounce it differently.

Some of these names are in French, so I can see why you'd be unsure of their pronounciation!

For example:
-Etoile (star - there's an accent on the first E but my keyboard doesn't have these accents)
-Beau (handsome - the feminine term is 'belle', which means 'beautiful')
-Blanche (white - the masculine term is 'blanc' but otherwise they mean the same thing)

I have no idea how to write/type out French pronounciations, but I'm sure Google Translate or something similar would help!

Hippeux, I Dont really know how to say his name, so I just call him Hippo Deluxe lol

Etolie, aparently I had been saying her name wrong for a while. So Im still not sure how to correctly say her name

Tiansheing, still not sure how to say his name,

Shari: Again, one I had been saying wrong for a while.

Beau: I call him Bow, but my friend told me it was Boo. But I still call him Bow regardless.

Then that one Sanrio elephant, with a cup on her head. I have been pronouncing her name wrong. Which is funny, because Im a tea junkie lol

I know how to pronounce acouple of these because I know some people with these names, I've bolded the correct pronunciation
Anicotti ("ah-ni-caught-ee"?)
Bea (either like"Bay" or "Bee")
Deirdre ("deer-dree" or "deer-dray") {It's like deer-druh}
Jambette ("Jam-bet" or jsham-bet)
Pancetti ("pan-che-ti" or "pan-ceh-ti")
Tiansheing ("tyan-shang"?)

A lot of the names become easy to say out once you figure out the puns or references they're based on. I know Ione's name is Eee-oh-nee, but I always say it as Eye-oh-nee, just because I think it's cuter.

I still don't know if Cheri is "sherry", "cherry", or "sher-ee".
It's a long shot, but since Cheri is red, I would say cherry.

I looked up her named in other languages, this usually helps with villagers who have reference names,

In Japan, her name is Japanese for Acerola, which is a type of cherry. That settles it :)

For some reason, I always pronounce Ione's name as "YOH-nay," or ['jo:.neɪ] for those of you that know IPA.
And Pekoe. I either pronounce her name as "peh-ko-WEH" [pɛko.'wɛ:] or "peh-KOE" with "oe" being a sort of e/o mix that doesn't really exist in English, as in the French sœur, so [pɛ.'kœ].

Hm, I want to clear something up.

I thought before I was mispronouncing Merengue since it's supposed to be the food, but looking it up now the cream is spelt Meringue? And the dance is Merengue? Can either be used? I'm very confused lol.
