So today I spoke to Lucha since I went into his house for the first time to see if he had a crafting table to be working at where I could steal a recipe from him. He does not. But I always feel bad leaving houses without talking to them once, so I spoke to him, and he asked me if my favourite food is a stew, as he has heard it from another villager. A few days ago, I'd been asked one of those one-off questions by villagers about favourite food, I answered stew and thought nothing else of it. But here we have them remembering what I said!

Another thing that happened is Goose asked me for my favourite muscles, which I answered triceps. Whenever he mentions muscles to me now, he almost exclusively talks about triceps, like he remembered I said those were my favourite.

Possibly unrelated, but 90% of the time I am gifted clothing from villagers, they give me green clothes, which just so happens to be my favourite colour, I buy everything green from Able Sisters and like nothing else.

These little details are so, so cute and make me so, so happy. It means I actually put thought into my answers instead of randomly picking the something or going for the first choice as I did in New Leaf because what I saw might actually matter later.

And some people say the dialogue in this game sucks.

and if you gifted them something they originally gave to you, they would say that it looks familiar. I love this so much!

people who say the dialogue in this game sucks clearly never played new leaf lol

Oh god yes. If we were in New Leaf, my villages wouldn't be saying ANYTHING except 'Bunny Day, Bunny Day, Bunny Day' right now. Instead, I've played treasure hunt and been given random stuff and talked about stew and Patty said she left her pencil case in her old home.

The dialogue in this game is SO good imo, you just have to get the villagers to warm up to you!! which i think is realistic and gives it interest!!
and finally you get some silly and off kilter conversation too, like sherb calling everyone on my island stale potato chips and zucker saying he's got a snack dust collection sorted by mouth feel :')

Every time Snake sees me now, he's running up to say hello or give me a present. I'm not a huge fan of jocks, but this sweet boy has grown on me.

I send and give clothes to my neighbors a lot, and when they're wearing those they always say to me that they're wearing what I have them.

actually, since there's a topic on dialogue, I've been meaning to ask

why do lazy villagers constantly talk about bugs that whisper/talk to them?
is this a reference to something? it's really creepy, they sound like psychopaths

I completely agree! My island has felt so much more lively than my town on NL and it feels like all the villagers have more personalised personalities rather than just copy pastes of the same personality over and over (although at some points it does feel a bit like that with repeated dialogue between personality types, I still feel its a lot more unique than in new leaf).

Every villager has their own little quirks and I think it's brilliant

Not just with dialogue either! The little things they do, fishing, carrying wood, eating donuts. Alli keeps bringing out a pink purse and a pair of fashionable glasses as she's walking around the village and it takes a lot for me to not yell 'YAS QUEEN' out loud because she looks so good. Snooty villagers think they are the best looking woman alive and in Alli's case she might be RIGHT when she looks like that

yes!! i am loving the dialogue in this game, combined w all the little things they do like singing, eating sandwhiches, exercising etc. makes them feel so alive! i know at first people complained about it since in the tutorial portion of the game it was pretty limited, but honestly now that just makes it feel so much more rewarding since i feel like i've gotten to know my villagers better after these first 2 weeks!

They seem to tell visitors about these little things too! Bangle asked me about a week ago what my special skill is, it had an option for "something else" which prompted a message box, so I typed "drawing" and didn't think much about it, however my sister was visiting my town and told me one of the villagers was telling her about my drawing skills (hahaha!) and asking if her special skill was also drawing like me! I thought that was such a clever little detail.

I really love to death that if you put out a radio playing a KK song you love, villagers will now sing along to it. This game is honestly just so clever.

i had that convo with julia this morning - i love all the new little details with the villagers!

This happened to me today. Molly gave me a gorgeous pair of sunglasses and I had nothing on me so I gave her the glasses I was wearing which I forgot also came from her a few days ago. She told me it looked familiar. Lol. Whoops.

.....they actually remember?
i sure do hope octavian realised i was joking when i told him what kind of stuff i read lol.

i think the villagers actually have their own relationship levels with each other too! just today i saw ed wave at stitches, only for stitches to completely ignore him... tragic.

i like the dialogue but i wish snooty/cranky villagers were mean like the gamecube version

not sure, but when i gave hopkins a butterfly, he said he'd put it along with the bugs in his floor that whisper to him at night and it was basically adorable.
