Villagers moving in to Nook's house plots

In your experience, how long does it take for a random villager to move into a house plot after I place it down?

I want to know how much time I have for island hopping before a random moves in.

(I mean the plots nook sells you after the first smug villager moves in from the campsite.)

A villager moved into my friend's town after maybe a few days of there being an empty plot. I hear it varies between towns though, so not sure if there's just one solid answer.

for me it was 3 days, it's the only time a random appeared since all my other plots, I decided who it was.

They say it’s as quick as the next day so I think to be sure, once you put down a plot, immediately go on an island tour spree to get a dreamie or else you always risk a random. Also, Nook gives you 1k miles the next day for every lot sold I’m not sure if he gives them if the move in was a random.

For me, its always next day! ;-; I usually get into a hurry trying to see if I can get someone I can tolerate.
