Villagers sending you real art pieces in the mail?

As I posted here, my letter from a villager this morning contained the worthy painting in the little gift box. I know that's how I got it because I haven't gotten Redd in my town for a few days, and because of what the letter says. When I donated it to Blathers, he accepted it, so I know it was real. Has this happened to anyone else? I don't think I've actually gotten any other presents from the daily mail, so it was definitely a nice thing to wake up to.

Also, lucky Hamlet for being able to get a rare piece of art while walking around the town while I have to wait every few weeks for a sketchy fox to show up on an even sketchier boat. -_-

I’ve never been sent real art through the mail but Raymond send me a fake valiant statue which was exciting! Lucky that you got sent a real one though!

They can send you real or fake art. I've gotten it a few times from my villagers, mostly Rudy I think. He sent me like two warrior statues, one real and the other fake lol

My villagers have only sent me fakes, and honestly I appreciate it. I always want fakes to use around my island, but never want to buy them myself from Redd because he comes so infrequently.

I got one real painting from Bones, and I was so surprised! Grateful too, I just had got a fake piece when Redd had come one or two days ago.

I'd also like to know this - I don't know if I should be sending them gifts every day to try and receive one in return or if this would actually override the random chance of them sending me art.

This was a random gift in the mail, I didn't send them anything the previous day.

Beau sent me a painting with a letter saying something to the effect of he hoped I appreciated art or some such.

Turns out, it was fake!
