Okay this has been bothering me for quite some time. So you know those Souvenir cookies that you can buy in Lottie's office? I know that they are used to invite villagers that are living on your island. Here's the thing that just bothers me. When you invite the villager to the resort you start making a vacation home for them. Then when you are done the villager just stays there. Which always make me wonder "Well what would happen if I go back to my island and they are not there?" well guess what they are still there.

When I go to talk to them they act like nothing ever happened. They just say the same stuff and never once mention how "Oh I like that vacation home you built for me at the Resort" its almost as if that whole thing you did for them doesn't exist. I do know that if your villager is sick or is sleeping and when you try to visit their home the game will actually warn you that you can't do it. So I keep wondering how can they be in two places at the same time? I thought maybe they are just clones of each other.

Finally what blew my mind is that when the villager is moving out from your island and you can't visit them at the resort because they are "Too busy" with things back at home. Then when they move out and you try to visit their vacation home they act very different. They don't ever make mentions how "Oh I used to live on your island but now I have a vacation home so you can visit me" and no matter what I did they still didn't make any mentions of our friendship or the time on the island.

Do you find any of this weird?

An Update to this. Ken moved out my island yesterday then I saw him at the Beach Resort the next day I go up to talk to him and guess what? He doesn't remember me.

I'm hoping the next game will have the villagers actually remember us when they move out, even if it's a set amount (say, last 10 villagers). Maybe they could tone down the amount of pointless dialogue from certain NPCs so that we can fit in dialog that would actually make a difference in the experience, so to speak.

It could be carried over to expansions like HHP as well. A simple 'Hey [Name]! When I saw you hop on the plane, I figured I'd join you and take some time to relax on my vacation home. Anyway, what can I help you with?' would be a lot better than just pretending they're another character you've barely interacted with.

Yeah the villagers just feel more lifeless even after HHP. Of course they have more life to them when you see them at Facilities or when you have them working, but either way when you talk to them in general they just don't have much things to say.

I was a tad disappointed to find out that Stu didn't even mention my name when I met him at the HHP island after he moved out of the island. I was a little sorry that I let him go, so I was hoping that giving him a vacation home would at least soften those feelings a little, but alas. It is definitely weird how... indecisive the game is, regarding how much HHP and the main game are able to interact with one another, though. One can't help but feel the DLC was more an afterthought at times.

I remember reading somewhere that Happy Home Paradise is almost treated as a different game in the code. It is linked to NH but there share barely any data. I do not remember where I saw that but it was on Twitter so if anyone saw it that would be good! Its really sad they dont remember you 😭

And they also seem to remember you if you visit them on a friends island but that rarely happens unless if they somehow got them by random if they let the plot autofill or if they came to your island and took them.
To add on to this I just moved out my other user on the 2nd island and I went back to see if the villagers remember me. What I found weird is that they miss me yet they haven't lived on my main island. This game is so weird.

I’ve noticed this too and it really bothered me. I think it’s just another facet of NH being lazy about villagers and their interactions with the player. It sucks and I wish it was different.

While my villagers never mention me building a vacation home for them when I talk to them on my island, I did have one of my villagers call me the nickname they use for me at home on my island while I was on the Paradise Planning island.

Yea. Villagers not remembering the player might be my least favorite thing about New Horizon.

I sort of understand why it's this way with villager hunts and campsites, since the way the game is programmed "your" villager is unique and remembers you if and when they move to another island (and having multiples of the same villager remembering you might be worse than what we have now). But I don't understand why HHA has to be completely divorced from what happens at your home island. It makes no sense that a villager wouldn't remember living on your island, especially if they visited from the chocolate gift.

To Right. They really made villagers have less of a personality than they were suppose to be.

It annoys me to this day that Raymond never mentions his job at the hospital, Tom doesn't acknowledge his wisdom as chief chef, nor does Mitzi talk about her days teaching at the school. Come on, I want to hear about how work went today fellas! Such a missed opportunity to add some life to my native villagers. Perhaps what happens at HHP must stay at HHP. 🤫 Dear Raymond, if you're facing a malpractice suit, you can tell me. 🙀

Feels like you're talking to a totally different villager compare to how they behave on your island.
