Sorry if a thread like this has been made already but its just a suggestion,, A LAUGH REACT. If that existed I wouldn't have to comment just to show I thought something was funny ;; Maybe we need a sad react too?? Idk the main one I want is a laugh react. It would be perfect

We did consider it at one point. However, the laugh reaction is very heavily misused on other platforms (e.g. Facebook groups are a perfect example) to mock people and laugh at them rather than laugh with them. For this reason we aren't in a hurry to introduce it.

Ahh. Dang it, that's a good point tbh,, well there goes my dreams of a laugh react then haha

i think things like lol and lmao convey laughter a lot better than a laugh emote for some as i can see how a laugh react may seem insulting or like a "laugh at you" sort of thing. But some people may not really like using acronyms/may not fully understand them. I feel like a laugh react should be standard anyway although i understand why it hasnt been implemented

See what I need though is an emote of this rather than a react

Because these just don't cut it for me -> 😂🤣

I saw exactly just this earlier today, someone new to the forums posted their Dodo Code and confused a lot of people, and it turns out they were charging people 2NMT to come onto their island to hang out with them/shops at their shops/etc.

Yeah, it is totally silly that someone would post their code without explanation, and seems a little pretentious they might "charge you to hang out with them," but instead of kindly informing the (probably a kid) person that that's a bit odd or trying to understand them, so many people were just rude, mean, brash, or making fun of them.

Like, we don't know if that person IS a child and just doesn't know better, or maybe they have some sort of disorder that makes them unable to understand normal social conventions. They do awkward things.

You never, ever know someone's situation unless they tell you. It's disheartening. We should not be quick to judge and misunderstand others.

But maybe I'm alone in feeling that way.

Yeah, it is totally silly that someone would do that, and seems a little pretentious, but instead of kindly informing the (probably a kid) person that that's a bit odd or acting kind in general, so many people were just rude, mean, brash, or making fun of them.

I saw that thread too. I tried commenting some helpful tips for the person to earn NMT because I knew how much it sucked to lose a bunch to village hopping. But it really derailed into mockery fast. I could see the emote being used unfairly there.

i can definitely see how the laughing emote could be used as mockery in these sorts of situations but surely the good usage of the emote would outweigh the bad? Like, so many people would probably use it for actual laughing. If they wanted to mock someone they'd do it anyway, they dont need an emote *just* to be rude, sadly.
(im not really arguing against you, since i know you didnt say much about the emote itself, im just adding my opinion to this lol)

I agree though. People are too quick to judge, misunderstand and belittle innocent people. Dont be rude unless the other person is being rude or uncooperative back imo

Oh yeah, when it comes to my opinion of the addition of a laugh react, I can see it being beneficial in the sense that it helps eliminate people simply posting "lol" among other posts that are not meaningful. And I do also believe people who will mock, will mock regardless of a react or not (as seen today), and I also understand how it can be confusing to know what someone means when they simply leave a laugh react. All good points!

We all make mistakes, we learn, we grow.
It is only failure if we fail to see the error in our mistakes, and do not grow.
There are always lessons to be learned all around us, if we are willing to receive.

It would be nice to have a "support" reaction, because sometimes "liking" a post is rather inappropiate. Also a negative reaction would be good to avoid circlejerks like the one in the Dodo Code thread, like maybe "redundant"? It could also be used to discourage spam on threads.

That is true but you can always report posts instead.

Sadly I think that could be abused, a lot.

But yeah a laugh/neutral one would be nice :3
anything can be abused. I honestly fail to see that as a convincing reason to not have

just have it be subject to the same rules and punishments as everything else abusable
