EDIT: Quick solutions for anyone wondering - you need a Nintendo account linked with your switch for event updates!

My friend got the game recently and as she wanted roses as her native flowers (for hybrid islands, which we did not know were removed at the time) she started her island in June. She did not bother correcting the time, so she had played in June for the last few weeks.

She was somewhere around the middle of June yesterday when the wedding event started and we assumed the event would still start as she was in the timeframe (after all if someone would buy the game now it should be possible to do the event).
When the event did not start she synced her clock with the internet to be on June 1st, hoping to trigger the event that way, but it did not.

Nothing we tried worked to activate the event (setting the time to May, then back, visiting Harv several times, restarting the switch, reconnecting to the internet, checking for software updates and now waiting a natural day).

Does anyone has another idea how we might get the event to start for her? Or is she "locked" out of it because she started her island in June?

Thanks for any tips :)

My only suggestion would be to make sure that the time is synced with real time and then restart the Switch after and restart the game again... but then you said you have already done it.
Plenty of people TT and are still able to do the event.
I hope someone has better answers.

That is weird! I was TT-ing and somewhere in September before I synced the clock and was able to start the wedding event. This could be related to the game needing an update (if it's not the latest version)? Maybe you could also ask your friend to TT backwards (before June 1st) then sync the time to the internet to see if that helps? :(

Might be a given BUT did she update her version to 1.2.1 C? Make sure that she is indeed up to date.

I just went to Harv's island and I had to talk to Harv to do my second day of anniversary photos, so maybe that's the problem? o: Before talking to him there was nothing set up in the house or anything

I got the event late, but I'm not sure what triggered it... I think it finally worked when I went online and entered the Nintendo eshop with my account. Then I logged in the game and saw in the screen title that I finally had the 1.2.1 c version. After that, I didn't get the call, but I went directly to Harvey's Island and he was talking with the couple.

Thanks for the tips so far!

So, we checked again and we realized that she does not have 1.2.1 C, she just has 1.2.1.

As we have been able to play together locally and that only works if we have the same version, we assumed she has the newest version like me. Problem is, she can not update - whenever she checks it online the switch tells her she has the latest version.

Creating a group to compare our games locally tells us the update could not be done.

Now the question is why she can not update her game.
She does not have an eshop account - is it really necessary to have one to update a game?

And after checking Nintendo's trailer for the events again just now there is the little print at the bottom of the screen that tells you that you need a Nintendo account for the free updates to work... thats why she can not get the event. :/

So you need an account for this and any coming events...
